Tottenham vs Everton: Why Spurs SHOULD avoid relegation on Sunday

Tottenham face Everton on Sunday, in what is set to be one of the biggest matches played at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium since it opened in 2019.

A defeat for Spurs would open the door for West Ham to send their London rivals down with a win over Leeds, and given Spurs' home form this season, there is a large section of their support that is understandably worried about what may happen this weekend.

However, is there any need to worry at all? We don't think so, and here's why.

Are Everton the perfect opponents for Tottenham?

If you strip back the noise around Tottenham's home form (which is cause for concern in its own right), you find that there aren't many teams that they would rather face this weekend in a must-not-lose fixture.

Of Everton's last 16 away matches against Tottenham, they have won just one of them. This isn't a stat dominated by White Hart Lane, either, as across their last four visits to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, they have scored just once and conceded 13.

Specifically, Everton have drawn four and lost 11 of their last 16 visits to Tottenham, and considering Spurs only need a draw on Sunday, they should take great solace from this fact.

Tottenham to win the match has been priced at 9/10 with Bet365, while the draw has been priced at 11/4.

A season at odds with history

Of course, football isn't decided by stats, and if historical performances counted for much, then Tottenham would not find themselves in a position where one more defeat could land them in the Championship.

However, the evidence that they will be okay on Sunday goes beyond the Toffees' record in away matches against them.

Everton have played an away match in London ten times on the final day of a Premier League season, and across the last nine, they have won just once. In more recent times, the Toffees have proven they are incapable of holding onto leads, too, so even if Spurs do go a goal down on Sunday, they should find their way back into the match.

We understand that emotions are high right now, but if you take a step back, Tottenham are highly unlikely to be relegated on Sunday.
