Tottenham Hotspur vs Newcastle United: Why to back Savio to score at 3/1 in Premier League clash

Tottenham Hotspur will return to Premier League action at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for the first time since May when they welcome Newcastle United to North London on Saturday evening.

The Lilywhites endured another disappointing campaign last season, finishing 17th and coming close to relegation, and they began the new season with a 3-0 defeat to Brentford.

However, Roberto De Zerbi's side have been the Premier League's biggest spenders this summer and showed signs of their attacking potential during a 5-1 League Cup victory over Charlton Athletic in midweek.

Among their high-profile arrivals is former Manchester City attacker Savio, who joined the club from the Etihad Stadium in an £75 million deal and has already offered an early glimpse of his quality.

Savio was strongly linked with a move to Tottenham last summer, but the deal failed to materialise and the Lilywhites had to wait another 12 months before finally securing his signature

The 22-year-old scored two Premier League goals in 53 appearances for Manchester City before moving to North London on a long-term contract, while also changing his name from Savinho to Savio.

He was handed his Tottenham debut on Wednesday evening when De Zerbi introduced him in the 71st minute, with the Brazilian receiving a standing ovation from the home supporters.

Savio needed just 11 minutes to make his mark, embarking on a mazy run past several defenders before finding the bottom corner from the edge of the box to put Spurs 4-0 ahead.

He was then heavily involved in the fifth and final goal, initially believing he had scored his second of the night before discovering that his effort had taken a deflection off Ben Davies on its way into the net.

Although he was denied a brace by his own teammate, Savio still finished his debut with a goal and an assist, showcasing his quality during an impressive cameo against Championship opposition.

The Brazilian is expected to start against Newcastle on Saturday and is priced at 3/1 to mark his first Premier League appearance for Spurs with a goal.

Tottenham vs Newcastle: Spurs must return to winning ways

While the League Cup victory provided a much-needed confidence boost for De Zerbi's side, they will know that a response in the Premier League is crucial after two successive disappointing campaigns.

Tottenham are priced at 5/4 to claim their first league win of the season.
