Under 1.5 Goals for Switzerland

Switzerland have scored just one goal in their last five round of 16 fixtures at the World Cup

Dark horses Colombia will look to get the better of Switzerland at BC Place Vancouver on Tuesday and progress into the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup.

Having defeated Ghana 1-0 in the round of 32 thanks to an early strike, Colombia will not underestimate the challenge that Switzerland are likely to pose, especially after their opponents comfortably swept Algeria aside to win 2-0 on Friday.

Switzerland dominated their clash with Algeria considering they faced just two shots on target, the first of which came from distance in the 14th minute.

Qualifying for the round of 16 is nothing new for the Swiss, who reached this stage of the competition in 2006, 2014, 2018 and 2022, though they failed to advance further in any of those years.

Devils Rouges' clean sheet against Algeria was their first in four World Cup fixtures, but it was also the first time they kept any opponent out in seven World Cup matches.

Head coach Murat Yakin last experienced a competitive defeat in November 2024 – a 3-2 loss to Spain in the Nations League – and they are unbeaten in their past 10 competitive outings (seven wins, three draws).

Centre-back Luca Jaquez missed his side's game against Algeria, and he remains a doubt for Tuesday, so perhaps Nico Elvedi and Manuel Akanji will continue in central defence.

Colombia were deserving victors when they met Ghana, with the South American side not facing a single shot on target, and they only faced two attempts in the entirety of the second half, both of which came from outside of the penalty area.

Winger Luis Diaz noted his frustration in the aftermath of the match that he missed a number of opportunities in front of goal, though the fact that he was able to routinely threaten a stubborn defence should be seen as a positive.

La Tricolor failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, and the only time they have reached the quarter-finals in their five attempts came in 2014, when they lost 2-1 to Brazil.

Meetings between Colombia and Switzerland have been rare, though boss Nestor Lorenzo will hope the fact his side have won twice and lost just once against their opponents in four encounters is a good omen.

James Rodriguez stands a strong chance of featuring despite dealing with an illness, though the participation of Jhon Cordoba is less certain considering Colombia are awaiting tests to understand the nature of his groin discomfort.

Whispers predicts: Switzerland 1-2 Colombia

Tuesday's clash could go either way, but the bookmakers appear to favour Colombia considering a Colombian victory has been priced at 13/10 (2.3).

Given the Swiss have scored just one goal in their last five round of 16 games at the World Cup, perhaps Under 1.5 Goals for Switzerland at 2/7 (1.29) would be a sensible prediction.

However, the European team have scored first in 15 of their last 17 matches, and backing Switzerland to Score First at 13/10 (2.3) could be a logical move.

The South American team have been one of the most attacking nations at the World Cup, so it would not be surprising if they managed to turnaround any deficit, and Over 1.5 Goals for Colombia at 6/4 (2.5) may be a value bet.

📈 Switzerland vs Colombia — Whispers' Tips

> Under 1.5 Goals for Switzerland at 2/7 (1.29) | Likelihood: Possible

> Switzerland to Score First at 13/10 (2.3) | Likelihood: Possible

> Over 1.5 Goals for Colombia at 6/4 (2.5) | Likelihood: Possible
