Strasbourg – Lyon Preview: Latest Form, News, and Potential Lineups

Read all of the latest injury updates and team news for this duel, including our predicted Strasbourg vs Lyon lineups.

Strasbourg

After barely surviving the drop last season Strasbourg changed ownership in the summer. Chelsea’s owners have taken over the club and this is likely to bring many players on loan from the London side.

Strasbourg have serious selection issues already. The influential inner midfielder Diarra misses this game suspended. Also, regular starters in defence Sobol and Bastian are among the 6 injured players that won’t be available.

Strasbourg Predicted Lineup:

Sels (GK), Guilbert, Doukoure, Nyamsi, Sylla, Delaine, Prcic, Deminguet, Bellegard, Emegha & Diallo

Lyon

Despite some spring rallying under Laurent Blanc Lyon missed out on Europe last season. Their inability to beat teams from the bottom half of the table was their main weakness.

The problems seem to have only deepened in the summer. Lyon barely avoided falling into administration but the team’s finances remain very bad. Naturally, this has affected the players and their preparation.

Star striker Lacazette remains faithful though and despite sitting out for a few days with a muscle strain he is expected to be available for the curtain opener. The two main absentees will be in defence. Starting goalie Lopes and centre-back Lovren are in rehabilitation. Riou and Caleta-Car seem set to start in their places.

Lyon Predicted Lineup:

Riou (GK), Mata, Caleta-Car, Diomande, Tagliafico, Lepenant, Tolisso, Caqueret, Barcola, Sarr & Lacazette

Player to Watch: Bradley Barcola

Lyon’s explosive winger Bradley Barcola had a solid last season. The young speed merchant is expected to build on that with even more impactful displays during this campaign. Barcola’s best offerings last term were on the road where he was hurting defenders with his electric speed. We back the youngster to shine from round 1 as Lyon will likely be playing to his strengths and use mainly counterattacks to look for goals.
