Sporting Lisbon will look to continue their impressive start to the new season on Friday, 13 September when they take on Arouca in the Primeira Liga.
The champions have picked up where they left off last season and have won all four of their league matches this season with relative ease.
The hosts haven't been quite as good and have lost three of their opening four fixtures. They aren't winless, however, thanks to a 1-0 win over Nacional.

Arouca vs Sporting Lisbon prediction: An easy night ahead of the visitors
Key Stats
- Sporting Lisbon have won their four league matches this season by a combined score of 16-2.
- Arouca have won just one of their last nine league fixtures.
- Viktor Gyokeres has scored seven goals in four league matches so far this season.
Correct score prediction: Arouca 0-3 Sporting Lisbon
Sporting Lisbon have been utterly devastating in the early stages of the new season and they have scored three or more goals in three of their four league outings so far. The only time they failed to hit three goals was against Porto so we expect a return to ‘form' this weekend against weaker opposition. Arouca have been beaten to nil twice already this season so it wouldn't be a shock for them to fail to score.
Pre-game odds and win probability: Sporting go in as heavy favourites
- HOME: 11/1 (12.00) – 8.3%
- DRAW: 11/2 (6.50) – 15.4%
- AWAY: 2/9 (1.22) – 81.8%
*odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change
Sporting Lisbon are understandably the heavy favourites with the bookies for this one and anything other than a comfortable win for the visitors would be considered a shock. Ladbrokes have priced an away win at 2/9 for this one while a win for Arouca has been priced at 11/1. The draw, which would be a brilliant result for the hosts, has been priced at 11/2.

Most recent H2Hs: Advantage Sporting
This is a fixture that Sporting Lisbon have had great success in in recent years. They have won 15 of their last 17 matches against Arouca and have only ever lost once to them in their history. Arouca's one and only victory in this fixture came in 2022/23 when beat them at home and that result could inspire them on Friday night.

Arouca preview: Slipping into old habits
Arouca's most recent promotion to the Primeira Liga came in 2021 and in their three seasons back in the big time they have finished 15th, 5th and 7th. Sadly for them, they lost Cristo Gonzalez in the summer who scored 15 goals for them last season and they already look like they are missing their talisman.

Sporting Lisbon preview: Getting even better
There were concerns that Sporting Lisbon couldn't live up to the heights they reached last season but if the start of the season is anything to go by then they could be even better this time around. While Gyokeres continues to grab the headlines, Pedro Goncalves is also quietly having a brilliant start to the campaign.

Player to watch: Pedro Goncalves
As mentioned, there is no doubt that Viktor Gyokeres is the star of this Sporting Lisbon team but his right-hand man, Pedro Goncalves, isn't bad either. The Portuguese playmaker has been electric in the early part of the season, scoring four goals and providing four assists in five competitive matches.
Goncalves has been a fine player for Sporting for several years now and enjoys a brilliant relationship with Gyokeres. Last season, he hit double digits for goals and assists and he looks set to match that feat this time around.
