Sporting Lisbon to win (-1 handicap)

Sporting Lisbon have beaten Arouca three times in a row, twice by a difference of three goals

Sporting Lisbon will host Arouca in the upcoming round of the Primeira Liga on Saturday, 13 February.

Will the defending champions secure three points as expected or will we see Arouca put up a good fight?

As part of our latest round of Primeira Liga betting tips, check out our Sporting Lisbon vs Arouca prediction below.

Sporting Lisbon vs Arouca prediction: An easy night ahead of the visitors

Key Stats

  • Sporting Lisbon have won nine of their 10 games at home in the league this season.
  • We saw both teams score in three of the last five duels between these teams.
  • Both teams have scored in 64% of Arouca's away matches in the league so far.

Correct score prediction: Sporting Lisbon 3-1 Arouca

With Arouca in good form lately, we can see them putting up a fight against Sporting who are probably down in the dumps after losing to Dortmund 3-0 at home in the Champions League a few days ago. Still, the defending champions of Portugal should win this game anyway and do it in a comfortable manner, but they might concede a goal all things considered.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Sporting go in as heavy favourites

  • HOME: 1/4 (1.25) – 80.00%
  • DRAW: 5/1 (6.00) – 16.70%
  • AWAY: 11/1 (12.00) – 8.30%

It is clear from these Sporting Lisbon vs Arouca odds that the hosts are the expected winners and it's not really close either, which is far from surprising since Sporting are the reigning champions.

That being said, Arouca have been in good form lately so this duel might just be a bit more exciting than expected.

Sporting Lisbon preview: Can they focus on this game after a tough loss?

The reigning champions of the Primeira Liga are having another good season since they're currently sitting atop of the standings with four points more than Benfica, the first team behind them.

Sporting have also done well in the Champions League and reached the knockout stages, but it seems that their journey in that competition is coming to an end after they've lost to Dortmund 3-0 at home in the first leg of their tie.

With the second leg against Dortmund coming just a few days after this match, Sporting will likely rest some of their starters. On top of that, they are currently missing injured Geny Catamo, Pedro Goncalves, and Nuno Santos, while Matheus Reis and Ousmane Diomande are both suspended after being sent off in the team's previous league game against Porto.

Predicted lineup: Rui Silva (GK), Fresneda, Juste, Inacio, Araujo, Simoes, Hjulmand, Braganca, Morita, Quenda, Trincao & Harder

Arouca preview: On a great run of form lately

After struggling for the most of the season, Arouca have managed to turn things around recently and they've only lost once in their last eight league matches. In fact, they are unbeaten in their last six games in the Primeira Liga, thanks to which they've managed to create some separation from the relegation zone since they're now six points ahead of the first team in it.

Meanwhile, Nino Galovic and Pedro Moreira remain sidelined with injuries.

Predicted lineup: Mantl (GK), Esgaio, Lamba, Fontan, Weverson, Fukui, Simao, Sylla, Gozalbez, Trezza & Araujo

Player to watch: Trincao

With Gyokeres likely to be rested for the Champions League after recently being out with an injry, Sporting Lisbon will have to rely on other players for goals in this game.

Luckily for Sporting, Trincao is more than able to do this since he is the team's second best scorer in the league with seven goals, to which he also added nine assists.
