Slovakia's hopes of reaching the 2026 World Cup ended with a 4-3 home defeat to Kosovo in March, despite having secured second place in their qualifying group after taking four wins from six matches.

The Falcons have since changed coaches, with Weiss returning for a second spell in charge after Francesco Calzona's departure, giving him the task of guiding the team through another Nations League campaign.

Weiss has already set his sights on winning the group, while the Slovakia squad will be looking to build momentum after the 2-2 draw with Montenegro in June extended their unbeaten sequence to three matches.

The hosts are ranked 45th in the latest official FIFA rankings and have lost only once in their last 11 internationals in Slovakia,.

Slovakia also have a chance to draw on a favourable recent history against Moldova, having recovered from a half-time deficit to claim a 4-2 World Cup qualifying victory in their most recent meeting in September 2001.

Moldova arrive with a very different objective after a difficult World Cup qualifying campaign yielded just one point from eight fixtures, with 32 goals conceded during that sequence.
