Shrewsbury to win

Shrewsbury won four of their six pre-season games.

Shrewsbury will host Bromley in the opening round of the new League Two season on Saturday, 2 August.

Will Shrewsbury get the three points in their first game back in this rank of English football or will Bromley give them a harsh welcome? Read our Shrewsbury vs Bromley prediction to find out, but remember to also check our other League Two predictions.

Shrewsbury vs Bromley prediction: Three points for the hosts

Key stats

  • Bromley have only managed to win once in their last five away games last season in League Two.
  • Shrewsbury have gone over 2.5 total goals in their last four pre-season games heading into this season.
  • Bromley have gone over 2.5 total goals in all seven of their pre-season matches.
  • Both teams have averaged over 2.50 total goals per game in their respective leagues last season.

Correct score prediction: Shrewsbury 2-1 Bromley

While Shrewsbury had a horrible last season and finished dead last in League One, they still have a solid team for this level of competition.

In addition to that, they will have the chance to play the opening round of the new League Two season at home, so we can see them edging out Bromley on Saturday.

They had a good pre-season heading into the opening weekend, winning four of their six matches and only losing once.

Bromley preview: Hoping to get to a good start

While they finished last season on a good run with three wins and a draw in their last four games, that was only enough to ensure they finished in the top half of the League Two standings, four points behind the playoff zone. Bromley will look to improve on that this season as they are one of the teams likely to make a push for the playoffs, at least.

Predicted lineup: Long (GK), Jenkinson, Elerewe, Charles, Cameron, Krauhaus, Thompson, Pinnock, Whitely, Ifill & Cheek

Player to watch: John Marquis

While Marquis hardly lit League One on fire last season, he was Shrewsbury's top scorer with 11 goals and probably the team's best performer and rare bright spot in an otherwise abysmal season.

The experienced forward also had a solid pre-season, scoring a couple of goals. Last time Marquis played in League Two was with Doncaster in the 2016-2017 season, when he scored 26 goals in the league. So, even though he's obviously much older now, Marquis could be in for a very productive season with Shrewsbury in League Two.
