Serie A most valuable XI: £72.6m striker and Inter Milan dominate

If you built a team using only Serie A's highest-priced superstars, could they win the Champions League tomorrow?

It is easy to assume that all the world's footballing capital resides in England. However, while Premier League clubs flood the market with cash, Serie A has mastered the art of developing and retaining elite talent.

Ahead of the 2026/27 season, Football Whispers has put together Serie A’s most valuable starting XI, using Transfermarkt’s market valuations (as of 23 July).

Unsurprisingly, defending champions Inter Milan dominate the selection, accounting for five of the 11 players in a squad worth a combined €620m (£529.3m).

Serie A's most valuable XI for 2026/27 season

In a 4-2-3-1 formation, AS Roma’s Mile Svilar (£29.9m) starts in goal behind a centre-back pair of Inter Milan's Yann Bisseck (£42.7m) and Alessandro Bastoni (£55.5m), with Roma’s Wesley (£34.1m) and Inter’s Federico Dimarco (£42.7m) completing the back four. The defensive unit has a combined value of £204.9m.

Moving on to the midfield, Roma's Manu Kone (£42.7m) pairs with Inter Milan's Nicolo Barella (£42.7m) in a double pivot, while Como’s Nico Paz (£68.3m) occupies the number 10 role. This unit is valued at £153.7.

Inter's Lautaro Martinez (£72.6m), who is Serie A's most valuable player, leads the line, with Juventus' Kenan Yildiz (£64m) and AC Milan's Christian Pulisic (£34.1m) completing a formidable attack that is priced at £170.7m.

Interestingly, Inter (5) and Roma (3) dominate this squad, with Como, Juventus, and AC Milan contributing one player each.

Will Inter retain their title?

With five of the Italian top flight's most valuable XI, Inter Milan have the highest-priced squad on paper.

The Nerazzurri have been consistent in their pursuit of the Scudetto in recent years, having finished in the top 2 in each of the last three seasons, winning two titles.

However, no team has won back-to-back Serie A titles since the 2019/20 season, so it will be interesting to see how Cristian Chivu’s troops fare over the course of the season.
