We have taken a look at the Sadio Mane AFCON record as the Senegalese star aims to win back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) titles with his country, after triumphing in 2021. Indeed, that was the first-ever AFCON win for Senegal, having previously finished as runners-up in 2002 and 2019.

Sadio Mane AFCON record
Appearances
Mane has made 18 appearances in total at AFCON, making his debut in 2015 and with his most recent showing in the 2021 final.
Goals
Mane has scored a total of eight goals at AFCON, netting in the last three tournaments. It should be noted that he also scored the winning penalty in Senegal's 4-2 shootout final victory over Egypt in 2021. We think Mane will also have a major impact in this year's competition, 3.
Assists
Mane has produced three assists at AFCON, including two in his last three appearances – in the 2021 quarter-final and semi-final against Equatorial Guinea and Burkina Faso respectively.
Win-rate
Mane has won 11 of the 18 games that he has played in AFCON, drawing three and losing four times. He was on the bench for Senegal's 2-1 win over Ghana in the 2015 group stage, and did not feature in the 2-2 draw against Algeria and 2-0 win against Tanzania in 2017 and 2019 respectively.
Captain
Mane has captained his country once at AFCON, in Senegal's 1-0 win against Zimbabwe in the 2021 group stage, where he also scored the winning goal.

Impact since AFCON win
Since winning the last AFCON, Mane has had ups and downs with his national team. He helped ensure Senegal qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar by triumphing over Egypt again, before scoring a hat-trick in their 3-1 win over Benin in their opening AFCON qualifying group match.
Mane netted five times and produced one assist in total in qualifying, and will be hoping for a similar return in the Ivory Coast. Unfortunately, the 31-year-old missed both the World Cup and most recent African Nations Championship through injury – the latter Senegal won by defeating Algeria 5-4 on penalties in the final.
However, he played in both of Senegal's most recent 2026 World Cup qualification games, scoring twice and supplying an assist in their opening 4-0 group stage victory against South Sudan, and also notably netted a brace in an impressive 4-2 friendly win against Brazil in June.

Early Senegal predictions
15th January Senegal vs Gambia – Senegal to win and Mane first goalscorer
Senegal kick off their AFCON campaign with their easiest game on paper against bottom-seeds Gambia, playing in only their second-ever AFCON. This should be a comfortable victory, and Mane could open the scoring like he did twice in victories in 2021.
19th January Senegal vs Cameroon – Senegal to draw or lose
Cameroon will be Senegal's toughest opponents in the group stage, and so three points is not guaranteed. They have only faced off once in AFCON when Mane has played, with Cameroon triumphing 5-4 on penalties in the 2017 quarter-finals, and so will prove to be a tricky test for the Al-Nassr forward and his team.
23rd January Guinea vs Senegal – Mane to win most fouls and Keita to get booked
Mane will come against his former Liverpool team-mate Naby Keita when Senegal play Guinea in their final group game, and it could be a feisty one with a place in the knockouts at stake. Mane is a tricky customer, and midfielder Keita will do everything to stop him having an impact, so a booking for him could well be on the cards.
