The last time Roma played English opposition in the Europa League was Manchester United in the 2020/21 semi-finals. United thrashed them 6-2 in the first leg at Old Trafford, with current captain Lorenzo Pellegrini scoring and assisting for the visitors.

The return leg did see Roma beat Manchester United, but it was not enough as the Red Devils progressed to the final. Pellegrini provided another assist in this game, this time for current teammate Bryan Cristante.

Roma picked up a precious draw in their 2021/22 UEFA Europa Conference League semi-final first leg away at Leicester City, with Pellegrini once again on the scoresheet, this time assisted by Nicola Zalewski.

Roma got the job done in the second leg at home, where Tammy Abraham scored the decisive goal – assisted by Pellegrini – to send Roma through to the final, which they eventually won and lifted the first-ever Europa Conference League title.
