Real Madrid Copa Del Rey Odds: Who could stun the holders?

As usual, the latest Real Madrid Copa Del Rey odds make them favourites to lift (and successfully defend) the trophy yet again.

Real Madrid kick start this cup campaign with a visit to fourth-tier Arandina, and naturally head into the contest as firm favourites. The Madridistas also head to Aranda de Duero in relentless form, and the La Liga title frontrunners, who find Girona as an unexpected thorn in their side, will target a positive return from the Spanish winter break.

Real Madrid Copa Del Rey Odds – 5/2 (3.5)

Real Madrid ended their eight-year drought for a Copa Del Rey win in 2022/23. The Madridistas put in an impressive showing throughout last season’s tournament.

Ancelotti’s side defeated fellow La Liga sides Villarreal, Atletico Madrid and Barcelona en route to the final. Real then edged Osasuna 2-1 at Estadio La Cartuja for their first tournament win since 2013/14.

Heading into their title defence this season, Los Blancos are the team to beat after building momentum before the winter break. Real also head into their third-round clash with Arandina unbeaten in 17, with 14 victories during this spell.

Semi-Professional Arandina Up Next for Real

In a severe mismatch, Arandina are the first opponent tasked with stopping an in-form Real Madrid on home turf this weekend.

The Aranda de Duero side plays their football in the Segunda RFEF – the fourth level of Spanish football. However, Álex Izquierdo’s side have struggled to compete this season. Arandina are bottom of the table with just two wins, 14 goals scored and 26 conceded in 16 matches.

Even though the odds are firmly stacked against a semi-professional Arandina side, they have shown some potential in the Copa Del Rey this season. In the previous two rounds, Izquierdo’s outfit eliminated two sides in higher divisions. A 1-0 victory over third-tier Real Murcia was followed by a giant-killing against La Liga side Cadiz (2-1).

Both wins came at the Estadio El Montecillo, which will provide Arandina with a little encouragement before Real Madrid visit. Yet another shock result appears more out of the question against an in-form Los Blancos side.

Real Madrid Copa Del Rey Odds – Who Could Upset Los Blancos?

Despite their status as favourites and reigning holders of the Copa Del Rey, Real Madrid could face some tough opponents, given they progress smoothly past Arandina.

In particular, Real’s city rivals Atletico Madrid might provide the toughest test should the two meet in later rounds. Diego Simeone’s side are the only team to defeat Los Blancos in La Liga this season.

Atletico also went close to de-railing Real’s Copa Del Rey run last season after Colchoneros held their foes to a 1-1 quarter-final draw at the Santiago Bernabéu. But Ancelotti’s side eventually progressed with a 3-1 victory after extra time.

Barcelona are another rival that could stand in the way of Real Madrid’s title defence. The Catalan side are the all-time Copa Del Rey record holders, having won the competition 31 times.

Xavi’s side also beat Los Blancos in last season’s competition. Barca notched a 1-0 home win in the two-leg semi-final before falling to a 4-0 defeat in the reverse fixture.

However, after already showcasing their credentials in a rock-solid season so far, it is hard to look past Real Madrid in this season’s Copa Del Rey. If successful, the Madridistas will notch back-to-back titles in the competition for the first time since 1975.
