Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (4.5/5): L’Equipe as reliable as can be
Over the last few years, Salah has become one of, if not the greatest, forwards to play for Liverpool. The Egyptian’s current contract is set to run out at the end of the season and Salah has already confirmed that Liverpool are yet to offer him a new contract.
French publication L’Equipe has now reported that Salah has opened talks with the French champions over a potential move to Paris once his contract at Liverpool expires.
L’Equipe are one of the most reputable sources for transfer news regarding French football and there is not much doubt over PSG's reported interest in Salah.
Value (5/5): Free transfer for one of the best in the world
The report has suggested that PSG will only attempt to sign the Egyptian once his contract runs out at Liverpool in the summer. As such, the French champions will have the opportunity to sign possibly the best forward currently in Europe for free, which could even put Real Madrid’s deal to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer to shame.
While the Egyptian is likely to ask for a truckload of money to sign with Les Parisiens, every penny would be fully worth it for PSG. Additionally, they possess the finances to easily beat what any other European club could offer Salah.
Suitability (5/5): PSG need a figure to build around
Since Mbappe’s departure, PSG have lacked a proper leader in attack. As such, the incorporation of Salah into Luis Enrique's squad would have a positive impact, which the French champions desperately need.
Salah would slot into the right-wing position and would immensely help the likes of Randall Kolo Muani and Goncalo Ramos succeed.
Upgrade? (5/5): Salah would easily be the best at the club
While PSG have not seemed to suffer offensively in Ligue 1, they have seemed to fall short in the Champions League. Salah would be a big upgrade for Paris Saint-Germain On the right wing. Currently, Enrique only has Ousmane Dembele and Marco Asensio on the right wing and both have flopped massively at the club.
Logic (2.5/5): PSG move makes little sense for Salah
While the move for Salah might be revolutionary for PSG, the same cannot be said for the Liverpool winger. The French champions have been a big name in European football and have had some of the biggest names at their disposal; however, they have not seen even close to improving on their mediocre European legacy.
If Salah wants to continue his European journey, he would be better off choosing a different club as he would like to put another Champions League title next to his name.
Whisper+ final verdict – 22.5/25
If the deal is possible, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is likely to go all guns blazing to try and sign the Egyptian forward, with whom he is said to have a good off-the-field relationship. However, it would make much more sense for Salah to wait for Liverpool to offer him a new contract, and if the Reds choose against offering an extension, he will likely have a lot more options to move in the summer as a free agent.
