Once again, a fixture involving Manchester City is taking centre stage this weekend. The Premier League champions head to Anfield in potentially a title-deciding game, knowing a win for the away side will see them jump to the top of the table.
With so many top players involved in that late Sunday game, as well as numerous other stars playing this weekend, we've analysed who could find the back of the net in three separate matches.
Premier League first goalscorer predictions
Manchester United vs Everton – Marcus Rashford – 11/2 (6.5)
Marcus Rashford looked to be putting Manchester United on his back in search of a Derby Day upset last Sunday when he smashed home a stunning long-range effort into the top corner. Rashford had done a lot of talking during the week about his performances, and how he's only going to get better and the attacker backed things up with the first goal of the game.
It's now back to home comforts for Rashford and Man United against relegation-threatened Everton, who he did score against in the reverse fixture. Rashford's goal was slightly overshadowed by a goal-of-the-season contender from Alejandro Garnacho, but with the Old Trafford faithful behind him, he could go one better and set the tone for two weeks in a row.
Everton are a team that Rashford has had relative success against during his career winning 11 of the 18 games against the Toffees while netting two goals and teeing up his teammates five times.
Aston Villa vs Tottenham Hotspur – Ollie Watkins – 11/2 (6.5)
Ollie Watkins is potentially in the form of his career having scored 16 times in the Premier League, a statistic which is only bettered by the goal machine, Erling Haaland who's found the back of the net 19 times. Watkins has scored in three consecutive league games against Fulham, Nottingham Forest and Luton Town respectively.
It's also not just in the last three weeks that Watkins has been causing defenders plenty of problems, in fact, he's scored seven goals in 2024 including two braces in the Premier League. This will be Watkins and Villa's toughest test for a long time welcoming Tottenham Hotspur, but they did indeed win the reverse fixture.
It was a Pau Torres goal on the stroke of half-time which set Villa up for a stunning second-half which was rounded off nicely by a Watkins strike. After a disappointing blank midweek against Ajax, Watkins will be itching to face a Spurs team he's got four goal involvements against in just seven appearances against them during his career.
Liverpool vs Manchester City – Mohammed Salah – 5/1 (6.0)
Just when Liverpool fans would have been fearing the worst with their injuries mounting up and a blockbuster clash against Man City on the cards, their Egyptian king, Mohammed Salah, has returned to first-team action. Salah came off the bench in the Europa League for Liverpool during their 5-1 win away to Slavia Prague in which Jurgen Klopp handed him 26 minutes.
With minutes under his belt and seemingly a full week's worth of training, it would be a huge shock if Salah was left on the bench in what is Liverpool's most important game of the Premier League season so far. Salah has missed six league games thus far, but still finds himself third in the goalscoring charts with 15 goals, just one fewer than Watkins, which shows how incredible he is in the final third.
Despite Man City being probably the toughest game any side will face in the entire Premier League right now – and for the last few seasons – Salah has thrived in the high-pressure games and often stepped up when it matters the most. He's got 11 goals in 20 games against City, which makes him the joint fourth-highest-scoring player against the champions in their entire history.
So, with Liverpool being the home side and Anfield roaring their team on against a title rival and Salah fresh from time on the sidelines, he would be a pretty sure-fire option when it comes to the first goalscorer in its clash.
