Porto returned to the Champions League league phase after a two-year absence on the back of winning the Portuguese title last season.ending a three-year wait to be crowned domestic champions.
That gave Francesco Farioli an encouraging foundation for his first European campaign with the club, though the Dragons have struggled in the league phase, losing 2-0 to Manchester City on the opening gameweek before last week’s 3-2 loss at Real Betis.
The result leaves Porto 30th in the 36-team table, leaving them at risk of an early exit after exiting at the quarter-finals in last term’s Europa League campaign.
However, their domestic form has remained impressive this season, as the Dragons won their opening eight Primeira Liga fixtures to establish a five-point advantage at the summit.
Porto enter Tuesday’s encounter fully refreshed, having not featured in any football action at the weekend, given there were no Primeira Liga matchday nine games played.
PSV began their European campaign with a 1-1 draw against Shakhtar Donetsk, with Sergino Dest finding the net, but they were unable to build on that result as a 1-0 defeat away to RB Leipzig left them with only one point from their opening two fixtures.
The Boeren’s domestic campaign has also taken a concerning turn, as a 2-1 loss to ADO Den Haag at the weekend followed the Leipzig setback and left Peter Bosz facing the possibility of a third consecutive defeat across all competitions.
PSV were particularly disappointed by the latest league result after taking the lead through Sven Mijnans, whose dismissal later in the match complicated their efforts to protect the advantage before ADO Den Haag completed the comeback.
As such, the Dutch champions have seen their position in the Eredivisie standings weakened, leaving them four points behind the league leaders.
Meanwhile, PSV sit 26th in the league phase table, and another loss on Tuesday will further put them at risk of another early exit after finishing 28th in the Champions League league phase last season.

Whispers predicts: Porto 2-1 PSV
Both teams to score at 1.57 (4/7) is an appealing option, as Porto’s latest European outing demonstrated their ability to create and convert chances, while PSV have also shown they can find the net even when results do not go their way.
Porto to win at 1.65 (13/20) is worth backing given their strong domestic performances and the advantage of playing at the Estadio do Dragao, particularly against a PSV side arriving after two consecutive defeats.
The second half to be the highest-scoring half at 2.05 (21/20) also offers an interesting alternative, while a 2-1 Porto victory at 8.50 (15/2) offers solid value for an outside bet.
