Port Vale vs Middlesbrough prediction – Betting tips & odds

Hot Tip – Middlesbrough to Win

  • Middlesbrough play in the Championship, a division above their hosts.
  • Middlesbrough have won each of their last three encounters with Port Vale.

Another reason that we have backed Middlesbrough to win as our main prediction is that Port Vale have only won two of their last six away games in all competitions.

Port Vale vs Middlesbrough team news

Port Vale

Port Vale narrowly beat Manfield Town in the last round of the League Cup. Alfie Devine scored the game's only goal five minutes into the second half and Connor Ripley kept out anything Mansfield could throw at him.

Port Vale have no fresh injury concerns or suspended players following their weekend win over Wigan in League One, in which Ethan Chislett scored a hat-trick.

Predicted Lineup: Ripley (GK), Debrah, Ojo, Massey, Lowe, Grant, Balmer, Garrity, Chislett, Devine & Arblaster

Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough needed a late penalty to defeat lower-league opposition in the last round of this competition, beating Exeter City at St James' Park 3-2. A late penalty from Emmanuel Latte Lath secured Middlesbrough's place in the quarter-final of the League Cup, but the Boro faithful will be hoping for an easier passage this time.

Patrick Mcnair, Hayden Hackney, Marcus Forss, Tom Smith, Darragh Lenihan, Riley McGree & Lewis O'Brien are expected to miss out on Tuesday through injury.

Predicted Lineup: Dieng (GK), Fry, Dijksteel, Bangura, van den Berg, Howson, Crooks, Barlaser, Jones, Latte Lath & Rogers

Player to Watch: Ethan Chislett

Port Vale's South African midfielder heads into Tuesday's League Cup quarter-final on the back of an excellent hat-trick against Wigan Athletic in League One.

The 23-year-old is the club's joint-top scorer in the League Cup this season with two goals and could cause the Middlesbrough defence plenty of headaches on Tuesday night.

The former Wimbledon player has netted four goals in the league and has proven he has an eye for goal after scoring nine times in League Two for the Dons last season.
