🔥 Our Hot tip

BTTS - No

Coventry have not scored in four of five games this season.

Two teams who lost in the Premier League last time out meet in the Carabao Cup as Coventry City host Aston Villa at the Coventry Building Society Arena on Wednesday night.

The Sky Blues were thrashed 5-0 on home soil by Brighton & Hove Albion, meaning they are still pointless and scoreless in the division.

Meanwhile, Villa lost 2-1 at home to Nottingham Forest, as both sides occupy the bottom two spots in the table with the cup a welcome distraction.

Coventry have had a miserable start to life back in the Premier League, sitting rock-bottom after losing their first four games without scoring.

The 5-0 drubbing at home by Brighton last time out was arguably the worst of the lot, and Frank Lampard is under serious pressure already.

The Sky Blues will take some comfort from their last outing in the Carabao Cup though, where they beat Plymouth Argyle 4-2 on their travels.

However, Villa should provide a tougher test, and Coventry will be without the suspended Taiwo Awoniyi after his red card against Brighton, alongside a lengthy injury list.

The visitors could also be missing as many as six players through injury, leaving Unai Emery with a smaller squad to choose from in case he wants to rotate with more Champions League football coming after the international break as well as the Premier League.

After a poor start last season, Villa are struggling again with just one point and one goal in the division, as they sit just above Coventry in 19th.

Still, they went on to finish fourth, so Emery will not be too disheartened yet despite a summer of turmoil where a number of his best players left the club.

Unlike Coventry, this will be Villa's first outing in the Carabao Cup this season, and they will enter the round as favourites.

Whispers predicts: Coventry City 0-1 Aston Villa

Villa are favourites with bookies, and given they are in slightly better form than Coventry and boast the stronger squad, we are backing Villa to win at 13/10 (2.30).

BTTS – No at 6/4 (2.50) could also be worth backing, given the Sky Blues have drawn blanks in four of their five games in all competitions this season.

Overall, we are backing Correct score – 0-1 at 10/1 (11.00), as we feel Villa will edge a match between two teams low on confidence.
