Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (3/5): In line with previous rumours
Man Utd are prepared to spend big in January and bring wantaway Napoli striker Victor Osimhen to Old Trafford, having been tracking the Nigerian for some time.
That is according to teamtalk.com, and though their sources aren't disclosed, this rumour is in line with previous stories linking United to Osimhen.
Value (4/5): Napoli being more realistic
Osimhen has been sent out on loan to Galatasaray this season after no one met their £83 million asking price in the summer.
The Italian side's rethink has made Osimhen one of the most attractive players on the market, but United will therefore face strong competition for his signature, with Arsenal and Chelsea linked, too.
Suitability (4.5/5): Top class striker
Many a top class striker has dominated various European leagues before struggling in England, but there is little reason to believe the 25-year-old could not continue firing in the Premier League.
He even has form in ending a giant's long title drought – what's not to like, United fans?
Upgrade? (5/5): Honeymoon period over
Both Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund showed signs of improvement when Ruben Amorim took over at Old Trafford, but as their 3-0 loss to Bournemouth at the weekend showed, the honeymoon period is over for them, Amorim and the rest of the squad.
In Osimhen, United would have a striker they can build the squad around.
Logic (4.5/5): Osimhen can be focal point
As with the other Premier League clubs tracking him, Osimhen would have a new challenge in a league befitting his level, with his long-term future finally secured.
But only at United could he be the squad's centrepiece; the focal point around the rebuilding project operates.
Whisper+ verdict: 21/25
The right player they need, in the right position, for an expensive yet justifiable price, this rumour has excellent potential. United would have to be persuasive to get him to join, but they will be crazy not to meet his release clause at least.
