Whisper+ Analysis:

Authenticity (3/5): Atletico Madrid eyeing Nunez loan move

Spanish side Atletico Madrid are reportedly considering whether to make a move for Liverpool's Nunez in the summer transfer window.

According to GIVEMESPORT, Atleti are deciding whether to submit a loan offer with an obligation to buy.

Value (2.5/5): Atleti to fall short of Liverpool asking price

Atletico would be open to paying around €35m (£29.4m) to €40m (£33.6m) for Nunez at the end of the loan deal. However, Liverpool are likely to demand more for a player who is under contract until the summer of 2028, especially as they signed him from Benfica for an initial €75m (£64.2m) in 2022.

Suitability (2.5/5): Consistency concerns

Nunez has failed to live up to his hefty price tag during his time as a Liverpool player. The Uruguayan has managed to score 40 goals in 136 competitive appearances, but he struggles to perform on a consistent basis, which could be a concern for Atletico.

Upgrade? (2.5/5): Alvarez, Sorloth better options

It seems difficult to see how Nunez would find a way into Diego Simeone's side at the Metropolitano. Julian Alvarez has established himself as the club's top forward since he made the move from Manchester City last summer, having scored 23 goals in 44 competitive appearances.

Alexander Sorloth has also proven to be a useful contributor this season, netting 11 goals in 25 La Liga matches. With that in mind, Nunez would only get in the side if Sorloth were to depart for regular starting opportunities, but such a scenario seems unlikely at this stage.

Logic (3.5/5): Nunez looking for Liverpool escape route

The move could make sense for Nunez, who has drawn significant scrutiny during his time at Anfield. A move to the Spanish capital would give him the opportunity to make a fresh start in his career. However, he may have to be content with being used as a bench option by Simeone.

Whisper+ Verdict: 14/25

There appear to be a number of stumbling blocks to this deal. Liverpool are likely to demand a higher fee than the one reported, while it seems difficult to see how Nunez fits into the Atletico side due to their current forward options.
