Nicolas Jackson's return to Chelsea this summer could prove to be a brief one, with the Senegal international back at Stamford Bridge following a season-long loan spell at Bayern Munich.
Jackson scored 11 goals and provided four assists in 34 appearances for the German champions, but his form was not enough to convince Chelsea to reintegrate him into their plans for the new campaign.
There had been some hope that Jackson could force his way back into Xabi Alonso's plans after the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap initially appeared to push him further down the pecking order. However, Chelsea have since added Danny Welbeck to their attacking options, making a permanent departure increasingly likely.
With Chelsea reportedly willing to sanction a sale and understood to have set an asking price in the region of £65m, a number of clubs in England and across Europe have been linked with the 25-year-old as the transfer deadline approaches.

Which club is most likely to sign Nicolas Jackson?

Aston Villa currently look the most likely destination based on the weight of reporting surrounding Jackson's future.
Unai Emery, who worked with Jackson during their time together at Villarreal, is reportedly a long-term admirer of the forward, while Villa have already held direct talks with Chelsea over a potential deal.
The financial implications could complicate negotiations, however, with Villa having sold Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for a British-record £117m in July. Further business between the two clubs in such a short period could have implications under UEFA's financial regulations, potentially meaning a deal for Jackson may have to wait until later in the window even if both clubs are keen to reach an agreement.
Tottenham Hotspur have also made an approach for Jackson, giving the North London club a credible route into the race.
Atletico Madrid remain interested as Diego Simeone looks to strengthen his attacking options, although the Spanish side now face competition from Premier League clubs for a player who was previously considered a more natural fit for La Liga.
Napoli are another potential destination, although their interest is reportedly dependent on some sales, and that could leave the Italian champions playing catch-up if another club makes significant progress in negotiations.
A stay at Chelsea should not be completely ruled out either, as Jackson remains under contract until 2033, and with Delap also potentially leaving this summer, Alonso could yet decide that retaining the Senegal international as part of his attacking rotation makes more sense than accepting a fee below Chelsea's valuation.
For now, though, Villa's head start in negotiations and Jackson's previous relationship with Emery make them the leading candidates to sign the forward should he leave Stamford Bridge before the transfer deadline.
