Middlesbrough vs Chelsea: The Predictions
Chelsea have an excellent record against Middlesbrough and head into this FA Cup Quarter-Final as the favourites to win but it will be interesting to see how the players react to having no away support at the Riverside Stadium following the recent sanctions put against the club.
Chelsea to Win-to-Nil
We're backing Chelsea to show their class and secure safe passage unto the Semi-Finals but still expect the game to tight, tense and very closely fought. The visitors have won each of their last eight games against Boro and haven't conceded a single goal in any of those encounters. Chelsea have also won five of their last six matches in all competitions, keeping clean sheets in four of those matches, so you can see why we're predicting a win-to-nil in their favour.
Under 2.5 Goals
We're not expecting there to be many goals in this game as five of the last seven meetings between the two clubs have produced under 2.5 goals. Fewer than three goals have also been scored in three of Middlesbrough's last five outings as well as in three of Chelsea's last six fixtures, and both teams have a good record of keeping clean sheets in recent weeks.
All you need to know ahead of Middlesbrough vs Chelsea
Will Middlesbrough upset the odds and progress through to the Semi-Finals?
Middlesbrough travelled to Birmingham on Tuesday night where a goal from Connolly in the 23rd-minute set the visitors on their way to victory. In the second half, Balogun added a second goal for Boro after good work from Tavernier who claimed an assist. Middlesbrough have promotion on their minds but the chance to get through to an FA Cup semi-final doesn't come around often and we expect the hosts to give it all they have on Saturday.
Middlesbrough Predicted lineup – Lumley, Taylor, Dijksteel, Howson, Crooks, McNair, Fry, Tavernier, Balogun, Connolly & Jones
Chelsea certainly road their luck at home to Newcastle last weekend before eventually running out 1-0 winners thanks to a sublime effort from Havertz late on. The goalscorer could have been sent-off in the first half following an elbow on the Newcastle centre-back Burn and Chalobah looked to have given away a penalty in the second half only for the referee and VAR to decide otherwise. Chelsea, as a club, are under a lot of restraints and pressure right now so it will be interesting to see if that affects matters on the pitch any time soon.
Chelsea Predicted lineup – Kepa, Rüdiger, Silva, Chalobah, Alonso, Jorginho, Kanté, Ziyech, Mount, Havertz & Lukaku
Middlesbrough: Marcus Browne is the main injury concern for the home side this weekend.
Chelsea: Hudson-Odoi and James will face late fitness tests but Chilwell will miss the game through injury.
