Rasmus Hojlund’s future at Manchester United has come under renewed scrutiny in recent days. The Danish striker, signed two seasons ago in a multi-million-pound deal from Atalanta, could be on his way out before the close of the summer transfer window.

The arrival of Benjamin Sesko, who joined United for £68m, has put Hojlund’s place in the squad under question. According to The Independent, Fulham have made enquiries with Manchester United to assess the striker’s situation.

Fulham consider Hojlund as Muniz replacement

The London club are exploring the market for alternatives in case Rodrigo Muniz departs. The Brazilian forward, formerly of Flamengo, is a target for Atalanta in a deal reportedly worth around £40m. Negotiations with the Italian side are ongoing but have yet to be finalised.

If Muniz does leave, Fulham see Hojlund as capable of maintaining their attacking standards under Marco Silva. Muniz has netted 17 goals in the Premier League over the last two seasons, including 11 in 2023-24 alone. He proved decisive again last Sunday, scoring a stoppage-time equaliser away at Brighton in Fulham’s season opener.

Meanwhile, Hojlund’s situation in Manchester remains uncertain. The 22-year-old was omitted from United’s squad for their opening Premier League fixture against Arsenal and also did not start in a recent pre-season friendly against Fiorentina, despite Sesko not being registered in time.

Manchester United open to Hojlund sale

Hojlund cost United £72m in 2023 but has yet to fully justify that outlay. He has 14 goals in 62 Premier League appearances, numbers that fall short of the expectations placed on a forward bought for such a fee. At Atalanta, he scored nine goals in 32 Serie A matches.

United’s board are reportedly open to negotiating Hojlund’s transfer, with a price tag of around £40m. The club would prefer a move abroad rather than strengthening a direct Premier League rival.

Hojlund himself would like to fight for his place but is already considering alternatives given the competition from Sesko. The situation is likely to remain uncertain until the final days of the transfer window, with Fulham closely monitoring developments and the potential departure of Muniz.
