Conor Gallagher is on Manchester United‘s shortlist to strengthen their midfield during this January transfer window. Two other Premier League teams are casting a shadow over the Red Devils in this race.
Manchester United's main priority during this January window has already been identified: improving the midfield. At least two players will be signed by the English giants. Among the midfielders tracked by the Red Devils is Conor Gallagher. The Atletico Madrid player has been on Manchester's radar since last summer. While the transfer could not be completed, the hierarchy are now hoping to finally land the English midfielder.
The former Chelsea captain is not considered an important player by Diego Simeone at Atletico Madrid. He has started just four times since the beginning of the season in La Liga. A return to the Premier League is clearly being considered for Conor Gallagher. And indeed, besides Manchester United, according to Team Talk, the 25-year-old is also considered a priority target for Aston Villa as well as Tottenham.

Gallagher at the heart of three-way Premier League battle
Lacking playing time at Atletico Madrid, Conor Gallagher will certainly favour a departure during this January window in order to boost his chances of participating in the 2026 World Cup with England. The British outlet claims that the Villans are considering proposing a loan offer with an option to buy to Atletico. Valued at €35m (£30.5m), Conor Gallagher was signed for slightly more a year and a half ago (€42m/£37m).
It will therefore also be necessary to satisfy Atletico Madrid's demands. Manchester United have a head start in this race but the transfer window is only open for a short time and it will probably be the highest bidder who manages to win Conor Gallagher's favour. The Red Devils also have a disadvantage compared to Aston Villa and Tottenham, who are each competing in European competition.
