By all indications, Ederson, formerly of Fortaleza, Cruzeiro and Corinthians, is living his final days of his long and victorious spell at Atalanta. His departure today is much more a question of “when” than “if”.

As ascertained by Trivela, the player's entourage are maintaining contacts with interested clubs and working on some possibilities for the midfielder already thinking about the next January transfer window, mid-season in Europe.

Atalanta, for their part, have already signalled they accept releasing the player, but their desire is to count on him at least until the end of the 2025-26 season. For this reason, the club have dug their heels in to receive at least €50m (£42.5m).

All of this makes Ederson's departure in January unlikely. The trend is for the player to be sold only in the mid-year transfer window, at the end of the European season. Not least because his price should fall by then.

Ederson has a contract with Atalanta only until mid-2027. This means the Brazilian could leave the club for free from 31st December 2026. This scenario causes the asking price to drop to a value between €30m and €40m (£25m and £35m), as the player's agent Andre Cury stated in an interview with Cadena Ser in Spain.

Ederson almost joined United and could rekindle deal

Given Ederson's imminent departure, Manchester United become a likely destination for the 26-year-old Brazilian. The English club are monitoring the player and maintaining frequent contacts with his entourage. Trivela have heard there is an expectation that conversations between club and player will resume soon.

Not least because United's interest in Ederson is long-standing and almost resulted in a deal in June 2025. The Red Devils made an official proposal to Atalanta for the Brazilian in the last transfer window. The English club even had wages agreed with the midfielder. But the Italian directors dug their heels in and played hardball to release Ederson. The deal did not have a positive outcome.

Manchester United, moreover, seem to be treating midfield as a priority for this season still. The club are already preparing to lose Casemiro, who decided not to renew his contract, and have begun scouting targets in the market.

Besides Ederson, another Brazilian is on the club's radar and already with (initial) talks underway for the January transfer window. United are interested and discussing the signing of Joao Gomes from Wolverhampton.

Juventus also interested in midfielder

Ederson has been in high demand in the market for several seasons now. His name is monitored by giants in practically all major European markets and tends to generate speculation with each transfer window.

Besides United, Juventus have again expressed interest in the player recently – as had already occurred at the start of 2024. The Old Lady intended to count on the midfielder as early as 2025-26, but Atalanta are willing to release him only at the end of the season.
