— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) January 23, 2025
The very respected Fabrizio Romano brings this update, having reported every major movement so far in this transfer saga.
Value (3.5/5): United to get closer to Lecce's valuation
United's opening bid was reported to be worth £23 million. Lecce turned that down, having slapped a £34million price-tag on their prized asset.
Romano insists the Mancunians are not expected to meet Lecce's valuation but will offer improved terms in their attempts to find an agreement. As far as the player is concerned, talks over contract terms are expected to be smooth, as he wants the move.
Suitability (4/5): Can offer multiple solutions to Amorim
Amorim's 3-4-3 heavily relies on its wing-backs, as they play an important part at both ends of the pitch with their defensive awareness and creative instincts. Dorgu, who is capable of playing anywhere on both wings, has the positional understanding and technical ability to provide many solutions on the flanks to the United gaffer.
Upgrade? (4/5): First choice left wing-back
Despite his versatility, the Denmark international is expected to play as a left wing-back at Old Trafford from the get-go as the position has proven to be Amorim's biggest headache, owing to Luke Shaw's injury and subpar quality of Tyrell Malacia and Diogo Dalot.
Logic (4/5): Push for a move
Dorgu is understood to be keen on a move and if Lecce continue to play hardball over his valuation, he should push for an exit, as United could provide him with an ideal platform to show his talent at the highest level, especially since Amorim's tactics suit his traits.
Whisper+ verdict: 20/25
The reputation of the source combined with United's determination to get the deal over the line suggests we will soon get to see Dorgu in red.
