Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (2.5/5): Surprise Fofana link emerges
Barcelona are trying to tempt Luis Diaz away from Liverpool, who have already identified his possible replacement. It is claimed the Reds are interested in Lyon sensation Malick Fofana.
The story comes from Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, which is fairly reliable when it comes to Barcelona news, but the same can't be said about its understanding of Liverpool's targets.
Value (4/5): Diaz sale to fund Fofana deal
It is claimed that Liverpool are set to demand over £68million for the Colombian winger's services. Fair to assume Lyon are not going to slap such a high figure on their 20-year-old talent. As such, in an ideal world, Diaz's sale should comfortably fund a move for the Belgian. Easier said than done, though.
Suitability (4/5): Explosive winger
While much of the spotlight at Lyon has been on Rayan Cherki, Fofana is also a phenomenal prospect. Comfortable with both feet, the Belgian is an explosive winger who combines his technical prowess and pace to leave defenders on the ground. He consistently wins fouls in dangerous areas.
Upgrade? (3.5/5): Exciting addition
It's difficult to see Fofana replace Diaz at Anfield from the get-go, but his 17-goal involvement at Lyon this term suggests he would be able to contribute effectively as an exciting squad player.
Logic (3.5/5): Tempting move
Should Lyon decide to sell Fofana, there is bound to be intense competition for his services. But under Arne Slot, Liverpool have one of the most stable and attractive projects for both young and top players. It would be a no-brainer for him should Slot knock on his door.
Whisper+ verdict: 17.5/25
As much as the idea of Fofana joining Liverpool is exciting, the report suggests it hinges on Diaz's future. Plenty of ifs and buts in this transfer saga.
