Whisper+ analysis

Authenticity (2.5/5): Liverpool keen on Mitoma

Liverpool are reportedly among clubs keen on signing Brighton's Mitoma in the summer transfer window.

That is according to TEAMtalk, who fail to provide too much detail on the extent of Liverpool's pursuit, although they do state the Reds are long-term admirers of the Japan international.

Value (2.5/5): Brighton set significant asking price

The Seagulls reportedly rejected two offers of £54m and £61m for Mitoma from Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in the January transfer window.

Brighton are set to demand more than those two amounts this summer, with the Seagulls looking to receive £80m to part ways with a player under contract until the summer of 2027.

Suitability (3.5/5): High-level dribbler

Mitoma is at his most comfortable when he has the ball at his feet, where he can showcase his impressive dribbling ability. As per FBref, Mitoma has the second most progressive carries in the Premier League this season, while he is also in the top ten for carries into the penalty area.

Upgrade? (3.5/5): Potential Diaz replacement

Mitoma is a right-footed winger who prefers to operate on the left flank. As a result, he would be competing with Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz for a starting spot at Liverpool, although the latter continues to be linked with a move away from Anfield.

If Diaz were to depart, Mitoma could be a strong option to be his successor, especially as he has plenty of Premier League experience, having scored 17 goals and provided 14 assists in 83 top-flight appearances for the Seagulls.

Logic (4/5): Champions League chance

Mitoma would surely be keen to join a side that can challenge for silverware season after season. The 27-year-old would also get the chance to play Champions League football for the first time in his career, having only previously appeared in the Europa League.

With that said, Mitoma may have to decide between sporting goals and monetary rewards due to the possibility that Al-Nassr could reignite their interest. The Saudi Arabian club would be able to offer a lucrative financial package.

Whisper+ verdict: 16/25

Mitoma could be a viable option if Diaz leaves Anfield this summer. However, it remains to be seen whether Liverpool will be willing to pay Brighton's asking price.
