Liverpool are struggling this season and searching for ways to lift themselves. Arne Slot's position is not particularly secure and the list of summer signings has so far failed to help the defending champions lift the Premier League trophy once again. Can they convince Real Madrid to part with one of the biggest stars in world football?

Liverpool preparing to break another transfer record

The defending champions of the world's most prestigious league competition, the Premier League, are struggling after an extra-rich transfer window last summer. Liverpool are 14 points behind leaders Arsenal and sit in fourth place. In the summer, the club spent over £400m, yet none of the signings have so far lived up to the potential with which they arrived at the club.

Arne Slot's position is not the most secure, although the recent result at Arsenal (1-1) counts for something and Florian Wirtz is improving game by game.

It was not long ago that the media reported on Liverpool's intention to sign Jude Bellingham. However, the England international poured cold water on all the speculation, which he claimed the media had embellished. The Three Lions star is happy with his time at Real Madrid and has no intention of leaving in the near future.

Spanish outlet Fichajes reports renewed interest from the English club, who are reportedly preparing a record bid of €180m (£158.1m).

Jude Bellingham is among Real Madrid's key players

The offer is certainly tempting and substantial, and a return home does not sound bad at all. Bellingham played for Birmingham City before his move from England to Germany, but this move will be extremely difficult for Liverpool. Bellingham is among Real Madrid‘s most important players and the still only 22-year-old features in the Spanish giants' long-term plans.

The Reds' intention is clear – to sign a generational leader who would drive the club forward. Someone who would have a fundamental influence on the team, like Steven Gerrard. Current captain Virgil van Dijk is not playing in particularly dazzling form and Mohamed Salah is rather sulking and close to leaving.

If Liverpool were to pull off this potential transfer, Bellingham would surpass the recent transfer record set by the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle.

Will Real Madrid give in, issue a counter-offer, perhaps in an attempt to sign Florian Wirtz, whom they were pursuing until recently, or will they sweep the bid off the table? The most likely scenario is the latter, but anything is possible.
