During the summer transfer window, Liverpool came very close to signing Marc Guehi. The transfer ultimately did not materialise and the Reds intend to try their luck again. The English club are thinking however about another Crystal Palace player as a backup plan.

In the final hours of the summer transfer window, Liverpool managed to win their arm wrestle with Newcastle to sign Alexander Isak. The Reds hoped to repeat this feat with Marc Guehi but Crystal Palace ultimately scuppered this transfer. A hard finding to digest, both for the centre-back and for the English club.

Nevertheless, this does not stop Liverpool, who are determined to recruit the 25-year-old player, whether this winter or next summer, when he will be free. The competition will however be tough because several heavyweights are also interested in Marc Guehi's services, notably Real Madrid and Bayern Munich. This time, Liverpool have already anticipated a potential failure in this matter. According to information from Football Insider, Maxence Lacroix could be the Reds' plan B.

The Maxence Lacroix surprise for Liverpool?

Arrived at Crystal Palace during summer 2024, Maxence Lacroix forms a solid central defensive partnership with Marc Guehi. If it is the English captain who has caught the eye of the biggest European clubs, the former Wolfsburg player also has a profile that could suit Liverpool. The British media state that the French defender is considered as an alternative if everything does not go as planned.

Liverpool expect to lose Ibrahima Konate, who is coming to the end of his contract and is moving closer to Real Madrid. The current Premier League leaders will therefore have to replace him and if Marc Guehi is the priority, Maxence Lacroix could well find himself at Anfield next season. The 25-year-old player is valued at £21.4m on Transfermarkt.
