Authenticity (3/5): Leading source in Germany
Liverpool will be lining up a move for Bayer Leverkusen's Jeremie Frimpong, if Trent Alexander-Arnold heads to Real Madrid in the summer.
This story comes from Bild, who don't go into much detail on their sources, but are one of the most respected newspapers in Germany.
Value (3/5): A pricey replacement
Not only would the Reds be losing Trent for nothing in the summer, but they will have to part with a good chunk of cash to bring in Frimpong, currently valued at €50 million and under contract until 2028.
Leverkusen will want that valuation at least, given the 23-year-old's eight goal contributions already this season, after an incredible 26 in Bayer's brilliant 2023/24 campaign.
Suitability (4.5/5): A Dutch Trent
Frimpong's ability to get forward, excellent delivery and eye for goal will make many Liverpool fans see him as the Netherlands' answer to Alexander-Arnold. The right-back can also play further forward and has plenty of European and international experience.
He may not have played in the Premier League, but came through the Man City academy, has played in Britain with Celtic, and will have compatriots in the dugout and on the pitch.
Upgrade? (5/5): A worthy replacement
Considering he will only be signed if Trent leaves, he should only be compared to other right-back options at the club.
Conor Bradley is the only other such first-team option at present, and though the Northern Irishman looks a great prospect, he will clearly be a back-up to Frimpong.
Logic (4.5/5): Situation looks ideal
It was always going to be impossible for Leverkusen to hit the heights of last season once again, and with Xabi Alonso expected to move on, summer 2025 might be the right time for a new challenge with one of football's elite teams for Frimpong.
A right-back vacancy opening up at one such club, with whom he has connections, in a country he knows – this could not come at a better time.
Whisper+ verdict: 20/25
Frimpong will not come cheap, but he looks every bit the ideal replacement for Alexander-Arnold and should the local lad move on, Arne Slot could do a whole lot worse than make the Leverkusen man his right-back for the next few seasons on Merseyside.
