Searching for a new centre-back, Liverpool have notably ticked the name of a Premier League defender for whom the Reds will have to pay out a substantial amount during the next summer transfer window.

At the end of his contract in June 2026, Ibrahima Konate is one of the transfer market's major deals. In case of non-extension, Liverpool will part with the France international without recovering the slightest transfer fee. The former RB Leipzig player's possible departure obliges the Merseyside club to scrutinise the transfer market ahead of the next summer transfer window. Arne Slot's Reds have notably identified several profiles in the Premier League. Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi's name returns with insistence.

Another central defender currently playing in the English league appeals to Liverpool: Micky van de Ven. Unknown to the general public, the Netherlands international has taken a step forward since his arrival at Tottenham in summer 2023. Having arrived from German side Wolfsburg for an amount of €40m (£34m), the 24-year-old centre-back is today part of the London capital club's most used players. Having appeared on 13 occasions all competitions combined since the start of the 2025-26 season, for nine starts in the Premier League, Van de Ven sees his stock soar with a market value estimated at 55m (£47m).

Liverpool in competition with Real Madrid

Under contract until June 2029 with Tottenham, the Dutchman will cost his different suitors dearly. Liverpool are now warned of the sum to pay out to enrol Van de Ven. According to information from Fichajes taken up by Team Talk, Spurs will demand £90m for the player with 16 caps and one goal with the Oranje. A disproportionate amount that will raise the bidding whilst Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are also announced in the running on this matter.

At this position, Xabi Alonso's Merengues are thinking about the post-Antonio Rudiger era whilst the Bundesliga behemoth have targeted him with a view to Dayot Upamecano's succession.
