Liverpool first goalscorer odds vs Brighton: Mohammed Salah to haunt the Seagulls

Club football is back after the international break and Liverpool have a lead at the top of the Premier League to defend. The Reds managed a draw against rivals Manchester City in their last league outing which allowed them to continue sitting at the summit.

The Reds have scored 15 goals in their last four matches across all competitions, including three in their recent defeat at the hands of Manchester United. However, getting back to league action at Anfield is sure to see them refind their winning form.

Mohammed Salah – (3/1)

It's one goal and three assists in three games for Salah prior to the international break. The Egyptian was certainly not fully fit before this recent interruption of club football, but having not gone away with Egypt he should be ready to go against Brighton on Sunday.

That will only be bad news for the Seagulls knowing that only Chris Martin and Harry Kane have scored more goals against them than Salah has. Liverpool's number 11 has netted eight times and got seven assists when playing Brighton, so with all that information and a home fixture, he looks like a solid pick for the first goalscorer.

Brighton's memories of facing Salah will be fresh in their mind from the reverse fixture. Salah scored two late first-half goals to put Liverpool ahead at the AMEX Stadium, so Roberto de Zerbi's men will be hoping to try and keep him quiet, although this is easier said than done at Anfield.

Darwin Nunez first goalscorer

Darwin Nunez – (9/2)

Darwin Nunez is another one of Jurgen Klopp's stars who did not go away on international duty, much to the relief of his club manager. Nunez managed to play 120 minutes during Liverpool's defeat against Man United but did not go away with his country due to muscular problems, although he's expected to be fit and ready for this Easter Sunday game.

It's three goals in his last three Premier League starts for Nunez as he begins to show more composure and maturity in the final third. He's yet to score against Brighton since joining Liverpool, so doing so in a must-win game for their title aspirations would be a perfect time to do so.

Cody Gakpo in Europa League action for Liverpool

Cody Gakpo – (13/2)

Cody Gakpo has experienced an indifferent time at Liverpool since joining in January 2023. The Dutch international has 20 goals in 68 appearances across all competitions for the Reds and 12 of those have come in the Premier League which is certainly noteworthy.

Gakpo was not afforded a start last time out in the league against Man City, but the last time he was unleashed from the beginning by Klopp at Anfield in a domestic league match he found the back of the net when he put the Reds 2-1 up against Luton Town.

So, while Brighton are a better outfit than the Hatters, Gakpo needs confidence and trust from his manager to thrive, otherwise, he could well end up wasting time and talent by coming on and off the bench.

Harvey Elliott to thrive amidst Liverpool's injury crisis

Harvey Elliot – (11/1)

While many will be ruing the injury crisis at Liverpool, some of the younger and maybe fringe players certainly will not. Harvey Elliot is one of those who is set for an extended period in the starting lineup due to the number of injuries. Players such as Diogo Jota and Curtis Jones being unavailable should hand Elliott a chance to play in numerous positions and venture further forward.

Elliot is certainly proving himself to be a big presence and threat in the final third this season. The young English midfielder is creating 4.54 shot-creating actions per 90 minutes as well as outperforming his 1.2XG having scored twice in the league this campaign, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see him score, especially when he bagged in the dramatic defeat at Old Trafford.

The midfielder has two goals to his name in the Premier League and will be hoping he can add to his tally against a Brighton side he's never been able to find the back of the net against. Elliot will have also returned to Liverpool training this week in a buoyed mood having starred for Engaldn's U21 side on international duty bagging braces against Northern Ireland and Azerbaijan.
