Leicester transfer targets summer 2024: Another Belgian international to become a Fox?

After an unexpected relegation in May 2023, Leicester City have made an instant return to the Premier League. But with a points deduction potentially looming after an alleged breach of profitability and sustainability rules (PSR), the Foxes will need to be more cunning than ever to avoid danger.

It's already been a turbulent summer at the club, with Championship title-winning manager Enzo Maresca departing for Chelsea after just one season with the Foxes. But Leicester have at least reacted quickly by appointing Steve Cooper, the former Nottingham Forest manager, to take care of the team.

Leicester transfer targets – latest rumours

Last season's title charge mostly relied on players who have been at Leicester for a while, such as Jamie Vardy, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Wilfred Ndidi, and a few others. They will all need some competition for places, with squad depth becoming critically important if Leicester lose points.

With Vardy now being 37 years old, he will certainly need a foil up front. Yet, early rumours imply that defence – and not a new number nine – will be the focal point this summer.

Arthur Theate

We've seen quite a few Belgian players make the King Power Stadium their home in recent years, and most of them have done so with great success, especially the likes of Youri Tielemans, Timothy Castagne, and Wout Faes. While the first two aren't at the club anymore, Faes is the staple of Leicester's defence, and he might be joined by another defender from the Belgian national team, Arthur Theate.

The 24-year-old centre-back would seemingly fit right in next to his countryman in the middle of Leicester's defence or even slide to the left-back position as he's done occasionally in his career, but the Foxes are not the only team interested in Theate. Reportedly, Fiorentina are also looking to sign the defender, so Leicester will have to be firm in their pursuit or they will risk losing Theate to another team like they did back in 2022, when he moved to Rennes from Bologna.

No potential fee has been reported so far, but Theate's estimated market value is around €20.00m and Rennes are unlikely to settle for less. That might be a steep price for Leicester at this moment, but it's certainly not out of their range completely.

Joe Rodon

Another option that Leicester are reportedly considering for the centre-back position is Joe Rodon, the 26-year-old Welsh international who spent the last season on loan at Leeds United and played in 43 games in the Championship for them.

Rodon has one year left on his contract with Tottenham and it's likely that they'll look to move him, given that he only played in 15 Premier League games for Spurs since he signed for the club in 2020. The potential fee that Leicester might have to pay to sign Rodon is around €10.00m.

However, a few other English teams are also looking into signing Rodon, including a Leeds side that nearly earned promotion last season with the Welshman in the middle of their defence. That being said, Leicester certainly have the advantage as they are a Premier League club, and Rodon has already worked with Steve Cooper, who gave him a chance in the first team while at Swansea.

David Carmo

While Leicester City's chances of signing David Carmo aren't as great as signing either of the previous two centre-backs we mentioned, the Foxes are reportedly interested in the Angolan international. The defender who was born in Portugal and spend almost his entire career there, first with Braga and then with Porto, has been valued at €12.00m.

However, the 24-yar-old did spend the second half of last season on loan at Olympiacos and helped the Greek team win the Europa Conference League. Olympiacos can reportedly keep Carmo on a permanent deal for €18.00m, but they aren't prepared to pay that much, which leaves room for Leicester to swoop in.

Sean Longstaff

Sean Longstaff

When it comes to creative players, one of the midfielders that Leicester are reportedly targeting is Sean Longstaff. Going through their academy to reach the first team, the 26-year-old has been with Newcastle United since 2006, and he's been starting regularly for the Magpies in the past couple of seasons.

Despite that, there are rumours that Newcastle are ready to sell the midfielder for a price of around €15.00m, which is below Longstaff's estimated market value, and that Leicester are prepared to make that bid. That being said, this was reported a couple of weeks ago and since then we haven't heard of any further development, which might make this transfer unlikely.

Matias Soule

One of the potential signings that Leicester are targeting for the future, as well as the present, is Matias Soule. The 21-year-old Argentinian attacker has a contract with Juventus, but he spent last season on loan at Frosinone. He took the opportunity with aplomb, netting 11 times to be the team's top scorer in Serie A, and he had more successful dribbles than any other player in the league (102).

According to some reports, Juventus are open to selling the youngster, but at a very steep price of around €40.00m, quite ahead of Soule's estimated market value of €40.00m. That is certainly a problem for the Foxes at this time, but they might bite the bullet given the potential that Soule has, which could not only translate in great performances for the team, but also into a bigger transfer down the road.

Caleb Okoli

According to some reports, the young Italian centre-back of Nigerian descend will be a Fox next season as Okoli's transfer is imminent. Reportedly, Atalanta have accepted an offer of around €13.00m, which is a bit higher than Okoli's estimated value of €8.00m, so now the only thing that's left is for the defend to pass the medicals at Leicester City.

Of course, this is still a speculation and nothing has been confirmed yet, but the 22-year-old who spent the last season on loan at Frosinone seems to be very close to Premier League football.
