Latest transfer news today: Spurs plot £60m hijack for Chelsea target as Lucas Paqueta update emerges

Read the latest transfer news today as several Premier League players could make their moves before deadline day.

The clock is rapidly ticking towards the end of the summer transfer window, though a number of top Premier League clubs are still looking to get deals over the line.

West Ham, for instance, are one of the most active teams in the window following a rotten start to their season – one which has seen them thumped in their first two Premier League games. With the Irons struggling, a key member of their squad is pondering his future at the London Stadium.

Elsewhere, Manchester United's ambitions of shifting some of their dead wood appear to have finally made progress. A top Serie A club have expressed interest in two unwanted United stars, who could follow in the footsteps of Scott McTominay.

Here are the biggest transfer headlines today…

West Ham captain Lucas Paqueta is looking to leave the London Stadium in the final days of the transfer window, after being linked with two Premier League rivals.

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham and Aston Villa are both keeping close tabs on the 28-year-old who has made 123 appearances for the Irons since his move to England back in 2022.

The Brazil international was linked with a move to Manchester City a couple of years ago, but the move ultimately collapsed due to an FA investigation into betting allegations – something the player has since been cleared of.

Should Paqueta make a late move in the window, West Ham will be determined to bring in a replacement.

As things stand, the club are reportedly eyeing up Liverpool youngster Harvey Elliott.

Tottenham to hijack Chelsea's move for Xavi Simons

Tottenham have reportedly entered the race to sign Chelsea target and RB Leipzig superstar Xavi Simons, with a potential deal expected to be worth around £60m.

Football journalist Florian Plettenberg reports that Simons is currently in London after making an initial agreement with Chelsea. That, however, has not stopped Spurs from entering the race, as RB Leipzig continue to wait for ‘official offers'.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has scored 22 goals and produced 24 assists during his 78 appearances for Leipzig. He has also impressed for the Dutch national side, scoring five times in 28 games.

The transfer tug-of-war between Chelsea and Tottenham is expected to continue as we head into the final days of the transfer window. Simons is reportedly swaying towards Stamford Bridge, but he is open to meeting Tottenham's representatives as well.

Man Utd to strike double deal with Napoli

Manchester United appear to have taken a big step towards unloading some of their unwanted talent, with Napoli interested in both Rasmus Hojlund and Kobbie Mainoo.

Serious questions over Mainoo's playing time have been raised in recent times, with the player seemingly pushed aside in favour of others. The England international is yet to start a Premier League game this season, with his role in Ruben Amorim's system proving to be a sticking point.

The Red Devils have already been in negotiations with Napoli over a loan deal for Hojlund, with the Serie A side looking to bolster their attack. The Dane already has experience in Italy, having played for Atalanta.

Last summer, Man Utd sanctioned a move for Scott McTominay, with the Scot managing to turn his career around at Napoli. Things have gone so well for the former United man that he has been shortlisted for the 2025 Ballon d'Or award. Mainoo and Hojlund will undoubtedly take notice.
