Harry Kane’s Ballon d’Or success was the main talking point last night, but attention is quickly turning towards the transfer market as clubs across Europe start preparing for the January window.

Arsenal are among several clubs keeping tabs on Monza striker Gustavo Varela after his sensational start to the season in Italy.

According to reports in Italy, the 21-year-old has scored seven goals in eight Serie A appearances, establishing himself as the division's leading scorer and attracting interest from across Europe.

Napoli are said to be considering a January approach, but the Gunners represent a significant threat to their plans, with Benfica also monitoring the situation involving their former player.

However, the Portuguese giants retain the right to match future offers as part of Varela's move to Monza, alongside 20% of any future profit, potentially complicating negotiations for the Portuguese forward.

Liverpool are stepping up their interest in Brighton & Hove Albion defender Luka Vuskovic as they consider long-term options at centre-back.

According to new reports, the Reds are seriously interested in the 19-year-old titan alongside LaLiga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, while Bayern Munich and Chelsea have also been monitoring his progress.

Vuskovic joined the Seagulls from Tottenham Hotspur in a club-record deal worth up to £50m over the summer after impressing on loan at Hamburg, and has since established himself as a regular starter in the Premier League.

However, Brighton are under no immediate pressure to sell the Croatian international, who is contracted until 2031, with any concrete approaches expected to focus on next summer as Liverpool consider their options amid uncertainty over Virgil van Dijk's future.

Manchester United remain keen on signing Newcastle United left-back Lewis Hall despite being priced out of a move during the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have been informed that they would need to pay at least £70m to secure the England international's services, as per reports.

Hall was a leading target for United last summer, but they prioritised midfield reinforcements instead, while the 22-year-old has since extended his contract at St James' Park until 2031.

However, the Magpies are expected to rule out a January departure and remain in a strong negotiating position, although United's interest is unlikely to disappear, with a fresh approach next summer possible and Hall previously understood to have been open to a switch to Old Trafford.
