The summer transfer window may have shut, but rumours continue to swirl across Europe ahead of the January transfer window.

Many teams will use the first half of the season to assess the quality of their summer business, before correcting any mistakes in the second half of the campaign as they push for success.

Football Whispers takes a look at the key stories shaping the current transfer landscape.

Barcelona are still interested in bringing Erling Haaland to the club despite Manchester City‘s insistence that he is not for sale

Though the 2026-27 season is only in its infancy, Barca already look like one of the favourites for the Champions League, with the club having scored 33 goals in seven fixtures.

It has been reported that the Catalan side are interested in strengthening their attack with Haaland, who has a release clause in his contract that can be activated at the end of the 2028-29 season, so Hansi Flick may have to wait some time before signing the Norwegian.

Flick has so far opted against using a traditional striker, though they have been consistently linked with the likes of Julian Alvarez.

Haaland is arguably the best forward in the world, and his ability to get onto the end of deliveries would help elevate the level of the likes of Lamine Yamal.

Manchester United will reportedly only receive in the region of £200k for JJ Gabriel if he was to move to an English team.

The turmoil at Old Trafford shows no signs of slowing down, and news that teenager JJ Gabriel wants to cancel his registration with immediate effect will have disheartened supporters further.

According to Football Insider, the Red Devils should only expect a compensation package in the region of £200k should the 15-year-old move to another English club.

However, United would receive nothing if he was to sign for a continental team such as Barcelona, who have been linked in recent days.

Liverpool are confident that they can keep Rio Ngumoha at Anfield despite continued interest from Arsenal.

The Reds revamped their forward line in the summer window, signing both Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz, though their additions have fuelled speculation that younger stars could leave.

Winger Ngumoha has been touted as target of Arsenal's, but a new report claims that Liverpool are confident of securing the future of the 18-year-old, who has less than two years left on his contract.

In fact, the Gunners are not even considered a threat, with the Merseysiders keen to offer an improved deal to Ngumoha's representatives in the coming weeks and months.
