Manchester United are reportedly set to focus on defensive signings in January, and according to Caught Offside, one of their top targets is Sporting Lisbon's Zeno Debast.

The Belgian international is highly rated in Portugal and is said to have a £70m release clause in his contract. Caught Offside have suggested that the Red Devils could come in with a bid of around £34.4m.

Arsenal and Aston Villa are also said to be interested in the 21-year-old, but Ruben Amorim's ties to the players could give United the edge if it came down to the player's choice.

Rumours of Man Utd's interest in defenders are quite out of left field, as this is one of the areas of their squad where they are relatively well-equipped. Previous reports in the UK suggested that midfield is now the priority for the club.

According to reports on Merseyside, Liverpool aren't planning on bidding for Marc Guehi in January, in news that will certainly result in some awkward conversations being had in South London.

Paul Joyce, a Journalist with close ties to Liverpool, has reported that the Reds have no interest in going for a player who will be available for free just six months later.

Crystal Palace elected to pull the plug on the England defender's proposed £35m move to Liverpool on deadline day, after manager Oliver Glasner reportedly threatened to quit if the deal went through.

Now, Glasner will have to face the wrath of the Palace hierarchy, who now face losing a multi-million pound asset for free next summer. For Guehi, he will likely face the conundrum of waiting six more months for Liverpool or joining a different club, should an offer come in over the winter months.

Wolves line up new contract for Jorgen Strand Larsen

According to a report in the Telegraph, Wolves are pushing forward with plans to offer Jorgen Strand Larsen a new contract at Molineux, in a bid to fend off any potential interest in January.

John Percy of The Telegraph has stated that the club are confident in getting a new deal wrapped up in the next couple of weeks. At this stage, there is no indication that a release clause will be included in the terms of the contract.

A new deal for the Norwegian should put to bed any rumours of a potential departure this season to bed. However, Newcastle could come back in for the player next summer if things don't work out with Nick Woltemade or Yoane Wissa.

Strand Larsen only signed for Wolves on a permanent deal at the beginning of the summer, and although he eventually wanted out by the end of the window, he now faces the prospect of a hefty pay increase without having to do an awful lot to earn it.
