Latest transfer news today: Man Utd already know January priority as Marc Guehi update emerges

The summer transfer deadline may have passed in the UK, but there are still some windows abroad that remain open, meaning deals can still be done.

Deadline day itself was one of the busiest in recent memory. The biggest headlines of the day revolved around Liverpool, with the Reds succeeding in their pursuit of Alexander Isak, but ultimately coming up short in their quest to sign Marc Guehi.

Guehi wasn't the only man to be left hanging at the deadline. Could some of these players now be on the move elsewhere?

Here are the biggest headlines of the day…

Manchester United‘s transfer window was a positive one, bringing in three new attacking players and a goalkeeper.

However, they ultimately fell short in their pursuit of a midfielder.

Carlos Baleba was said to be their number one target, but on transfer deadline day, they enquired about Conor Gallagher at Atletico Madrid and it appears they could target him again in the winter transfer window.

The former Chelsea man was available for transfer, but Man Utd were only willing to offer Atletico a loan deal, while the Spanish club were only interested in a permanent sale. This could be one they revisit in January.

Emiliano Martinez is expected to remain at Aston Villa, after the Argentinian goalkeeper went cold on the idea of moving to Turkey to play for Galatasaray.

After missing out on his dream move to Manchester United on transfer deadline day in the UK, Galatasaray submitted a bid to Aston Villa for Martinez for £21.6m.

According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa were happy to accept the offer if Martinez wanted to go. However, the World Cup winner wasn't keen on moving to Galatasaray and will therefore now remain an Aston Villa player.

Sky have reported that Villa are happy to keep Martinez, and it is expected that he will remain their first-choice goalkeeper. At one stage, the Villains were close to securing a deal for Senne Lammens, but the Belgian ultimately joined Man Utd.

Marc Guehi is reportedly considering stepping down as Crystal Palace captain after his move to Liverpool collapsed late on transfer deadline day.

According to the Guardian's Ed Aarons, Guehi is furious about the situation and could relinquish the captaincy as an act of protest against the club.

Guehi was all set to sign for Liverpool late on Monday night until Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner intervened and blocked the move due to a lack of replacement. Several reports in the UK media suggested that Glasner threatened to quit as manager if the Guehi transfer went through.

While it may seem like the end of the world for Guehi now, it could turn out quite well for him. If he plays the full season at Palace, then he will be able to demand a high signing-on fee with his next club this time next year as he will be a free-agent.
