In their first-ever Champions League group stage campaign, LASK endured a difficult start, losing 1-0 to AEK and 6-3 to Liverpool before clinching a 3-2 win over Sporting CP at Estadio Jose Alvalade on matchday three.

That victory over Sporting was the second of four wins in a five-game stretch (L1) for Dietmar Kuhbauer’s men, who have turned a corner since mid-October after going winless in four competitive matches either side of the September international break.

Die Athletiker currently occupy the final playoff spot in the UCL standings, but with 12 teams level on three points, anything less than a win in their upcoming fixture could see them lose ground on several teams in and around them.

With five of their six Champions League goals coming in the final 30 minutes, LASK have made a habit of late drama. However, after a second consecutive comeback win at the weekend over Tirol, their supporters will be hoping for a less nerve-wracking European outing.

Having scored 11 times across their last four home outings, Tuesday’s hosts have had little trouble finding the net in front of their fans, although defensive frailties remain with 14 goals conceded in that period.

Facing reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain, Stuttgart, and Roma in their opening three matchdays, Slovan Bratislava have undoubtedly been handed a daunting start to their UCL return following their maiden appearance in 2024.

As a result, Yaya Toure’s men are one of just three teams – alongside Porto and Lille – still without a point heading into Tuesday’s clash in Austria, and appear on course to replicate their last campaign at this level, which ended with eight defeats from eight matches.

They will need to address their leakiness at the back, having conceded a tournament-high 13 goals, and a poor attacking unit, which has yielded just one goal – the fewest in the competition – has not helped matters either.

Since their last European outing, the Sky Blues have registered two wins and a draw from their subsequent three league matches, but still face a significant challenge in chasing down runaway leaders DAC Dunajska Streda.

Still without leading goalscorer Andraz Sporar, Slovan Bratislava will need other attacking options to step up as they attempt to revive their UCL campaign and climb off the bottom of the standings as the League Phase reaches its midway point.

Whispers predicts: LASK 3-1 Slovan Bratislava

Given Slovan’s defensive frailties in the UCL so far, LASK will sense a major opportunity to capitalise in front of their home fans, and we’re backing them to come out on top at 21/50 (1.42).

Only one of LASK’s last six matches has failed to see both teams score, making BTTS – Yes at 9/17 (1.53) an appealing selection.

Robert Ljubicic has been directly involved in six goals in his last six appearances for the hosts, and backing him at 9/10 (1.90) to score or assist here could prove rewarding.
