Inter Milan vs Juventus last five H2Hs: Even split promises close-fought battle

Our Inter Milan vs Juventus last five H2Hs retrospective explores the trends that have emerged in recent editions of this seething rivalry between two Italian heavyweights.

Inter Milan welcome Juventus to the San Siro on Sunday, 4 February in a match that could go a long way to determining the 2023/24 Italian champions. Going into the match, Inter have a one-point lead over Juventus in the title race and also have a game in hand on the Turin outfit so a win here would give them a substantial cushion as the two teams commence the run-in.

Inter Milan vs JuventusH2H record

Juventus vs Inter Milan is one of the most historic clashes in all of Italian football and is also widely known as the Derby d'Italia. Arguably, its closest foreign equivalent is Spain's El Clasico, so everyone knows there will be fireworks when these two sides take the field.

  • Inter Milan wins: 57
  • Draws: 54
  • Juventus wins: 92

While Juventus have indeed dominated this fixture over the whole of time, the visitors have only lost three times to the Old Lady in their last 10 encounters, with Juve struggling both on and off the field over the past few seasons.

Juventus 2-0 Inter Milan – June 11 2022

It was a poor start to the season for Inter who were humbled in Turin by Juventus as they reaped revenge for the Cup final loss at the end of the previous campaign, but it was to be a false dawn due to the imminent points deduction that came Juventus' way.

It was two second-half goals that saw Juventus pick up a big three points with former contract rebel Adrien Rabiot opening the scoring before Nicolo Fagioli rounded things off with just five minutes left to play.

The 2021 Serie A champions were left stunned at the San Siro as they failed to score in back-to-back games against the Old Lady. But this time it was even more of a shock with it being at home. Filip Kostic was the only scorer in the Italian capital in mid-February in front of 75,224 in attendance.

It was a game full of incidents and high tempers. Federico Dimarco and Federico Chiesa were both subbed off during the game due to injury, while Danilo D'Ambrosio and Leandro Paredes were both sent off in the final minutes of the clash as tempers flared.

Another example of how this fixture always delivers in terms of quality, passion and multiple crazy incidents. Juventus looked to be on course for their third consecutive win against Inter Milan when long-time servant Juan Cuadrado netted in the 83rd minute to give them  the lead.

However, Romelu Lukaku, came on as a second-half substitute to score a 95th-minute equaliser, handing Inter an advantage heading into the second leg of the Italian Cup semi-final.

That wasn't the end though, because Inter hero Lukaku was sent off just moments after scoring for a second bookable offence before then being followed off the pitch and down the tunnel by teammate Samir Handanovic, before fellow scorer Cuadrado joined him in added time.

Inter knew heading into this clash that a draw was good enough to see them advance into the Italian Cup final, but they went one better by treating their fans to a 1-0 home win to put them in party mood.

Federico Dimarco's goal was enough to see Inter run out 2-1 winners on aggregate. That set up a date against Fiorentina, which they would end up winning to secure their 19th Coppa Italia.

Juventus 1-1 Inter Milan – November 26 2023

The most recent Inter Milan vs Juventus H2H ended all square at the Allianz Stadium in November. It was a night where both teams' star strikers stood up to the test with Dusan Vlahovic opening the scoring for Juventus before Lautaro Martínez equalised for the away side. Both teams had chances to win the match in the second half but in the end, they both settled for a point.

Potential MVP – Lautaro Martinez

Lautaro Martinez is enjoying the best season of his career with 22 goals to his name in all competitions already. Martinez's previous best is 28 (2022/23) but with three months of the season still to go, he should blow this tally out of the water barring any injuries.

The Argentina striker is leading the way in the race for the Serie A Golden Boot with 19 league goals and he will be Inter's biggest threat on Sunday night. Martinez scored in his last appearance against Juventus and has scored four goals against the Old Lady throughout his career. Will he make it to five on Sunday?

Key trend

This isn't historically a fixture that is full of goals and none of the previous five fixtures have seen more than 2.5 goals. Given what's on the line on Sunday night, another cagey affair should be expected so we don't anticipate this trend to change at the San Siro. You can get odds of 8/13 on there being under 2.5 goals in the upcoming Inter Milan vs Juventus fixture.
