Inter 6-1 Bologna – 18 September 2021

Inter handed Bologna a 6-1 hiding in September 2021 in a match that will live long in the memory for those in attendance at the San Siro. Edin Dzeko scored a brace while the other four goals came from Martinez, Skriniar, Barella and Vecino. Arthur Theate scored a late goal for Bologna but the away end had already emptied by this point so it was of little consolation to the travelling supporters.

Bologna 2-1 Inter – 27 April 2022

Bologna were out for revenge in April 2022 when they welcomed Inter to the Stadio Renato Dall'Ara. With Bologna sitting in midtable, they could play with freedom whereas Inter were involved in a neck-and-neck title race with their AC Milan. Ivan Perisic gave Inter an early lead which sparked fears of another mauling but Bologna responded well and equalised before half time. Then, in the 81st minute, Nicola Sansone won the game for Bologna following a terrible goalkeeping error.

Inter 6-1 Bologna – 9 November 2022

Inter must have blamed Bologna for ruining their title charge in 2021/22 as at the beginning of the 2022/23 series A season, Simone Inzaghi's men gave them another 6-1 beatdown. This time, Bologna scored first but their lead didn't last long and Inter were 3-1 up at half time thanks to goals from Dzeko, Martinez and Dimarco. Inter stepped it up a gear in the second half and netted three more goals to give Bologna another day to forget at the San Siro.

Bologna 1-0 Inter – 26 February 2023

Just like in 2022, Bologna responded to their 6-1 defeat to Inter by defeating them at home. The 1-0 victory in February 2023 wasn't quite as dramatic as the 2-1 win a year earlier but it earned them a valuable three points as they pushed for a top-half finish in Serie A. On the night, the only goal of the game came from Riccardo Orsolini in the 75th minute.

Inter 2-2 Bologna – 7 October 2023

The most recent Inter vs Bologna H2H came in October 2023 at the San Siro. After losing their previous two visits to the famous old stadium 6-1, Bologna wouldn't have been expecting much but they put in a stellar performance to deny Inter. Simeone's men were 2-0 up after 15 minutes but instead of folding like in previous years, Bologna fought back thanks to goals from Orsolini and Joshua Kirkzee.

Potential MVP – Lautaro Martínez

Lautaro Martinez has been enjoying a stellar season for Inter Milan so far and leads the way in the race for the Serie A Golden Boot with 15 goals in 16 league appearances so far. Martinez is reportedly open to signing a new deal at the San Siro in a move that would silence rumours of a move to the Premier League much to the dismay of Italian defences.

Martinez has a good record against Bologna and the Argentinian has scored in Inter's last three home games against them. Can he make that four in a row in the Coppa Italia on Wednesday night or will the Bologna defence find a way to keep him quiet?
