2023/24 – Frosinone, Genoa, Cagliari

Inter record – P3 W2 D1 L0 F5 A1

Frosinone and Genoa won automatic promotion to Serie A by finishing first and second in Serie B respectively last season, while Cagliari came up through the play-offs. Inter have only played them once each in the league this campaign so far, securing 2-0 wins against Frosinone and Cagliari, but drawing 1-1 to Genoa.

Inter's reverse fixture against Genoa is set to take place on Monday, while they are due to play Cagliari and Frosinone again in April and May respectively.

2022/23 – Lecce, Cremonese, Monza

Inter record – P6 W4 D1 L1 F11 A6

Last season, Lecce and Cremonese were automatically promoted from Serie B in first and second place respectively, while Monza advanced through the play-offs. Inter's record against these sides was largely decent, although two slip-ups against Monza meant they finished third in Serie A.

Lautaro Martinez scored five goals against newly-promoted teams last season, and will be one-to-watch with regards to the rest of this season's fixtures. Inter also only kept one clean sheet in the six games, but are much stronger defensively this campaign.

2021/22 – Empoli, Salernitana, Venezia

Inter record – P6 W6 D0 L0 F20 A3

In the 2021/22 term, Empoli and Salernitana were promoted from Serie B in first and second place, while Venezia joined Serie A through the play-offs. Inter were flawless against these sides, winning all six matches and scoring a huge 20 goals.

Unfortunately, they were pipped to the title by two points to rivals AC Milan that season, but did all they could against the newly-promoted teams. Martinez was on-fire again with seven goals in these six clashes, including a hat-trick, while the defence was also solid with four clean sheets.

Inter Milan record against newly-promoted teams: Key trends

Inter Milan to win to nil vs Genoa – 9/10

In the previous 15 meetings against newly-promoted sides in Serie A, Inter have never drawn 0-0. This means if they keep a clean sheet, they tend to win the game. They boast seven wins to-nil in those 15 matches, and with just 12 league goals conceded all season, we would back another for Inter against Genoa.

Lautaro Martinez anytime goalscorer vs Genoa – 21/20

Martinez has scored 13 goals over the last two-and-a-half seasons against newly-promoted teams in Serie A, and so we would back him to find the back of the net against Genoa, as he is favourite with betting markets. He also missed the reverse fixture through injury, so will be eager to set things right at San Siro.

Inter Milan to win 2-0 vs Genoa – 24/5

A 2-0 Inter win has been the most common scoreline in their record against newly-promoted sides since the 2021/22 season, and is rated as the most likely scoreline with betting markets. Their victories against Frosinone and Cagliari this term have been by the same scoreline, so we can expect a repeat.
