Serie A has regained plenty of its appeal in recent years, with some of Europe's biggest names choosing Italy for the next stage of their careers and the league's leading clubs prepared to pay accordingly.

Inter Milan, Juventus, Napoli and AC Milan all feature heavily among the division's biggest wage bills, with established stars and expensive arrivals commanding significant salaries.

Using salary estimates from Capology, Football Whispers has ranked the 12 highest-paid players in Serie A for the 2026-27 campaign, starting with the lowest earner and working up to the league's biggest salary.

Football wages can be difficult to pin down, particularly when bonuses and performance-related payments are involved, so the figures below cover gross fixed salaries rather than potential additional earnings.

Gleison Bremer joined Juventus from Torino in July 2022 for an initial €41m, arriving as Serie A's reigning Defender of the Year and a replacement for Matthijs de Ligt.

The Brazilian centre-back signed fresh terms in August 2024, extending his contract until 2029 after establishing himself as a key figure in Juventus' defence. Bremer's current salary stands at €178,077 per week (£152,250), giving him an annual gross income of €9.26m (£7.92m).

Christopher Nkunku's two-year spell at Chelsea came to an end in August 2025 when he joined AC Milan in a permanent deal worth around €42m after injuries had restricted his impact in West London.

The French attacker signed a five-year contract at San Siro, with his deal worth €178,077 per week (£152,250) or €9.26m annually (£7.92m).

Rasmus Hojlund – €178,077 per week (£152,250)

Rasmus Hojlund joined Napoli from Manchester United on a season-long loan in the summer of 2025, looking for a change of scenery after an inconsistent spell in the Premier League.

Napoli's agreement included an obligation to buy linked to Champions League qualification, with the Dane's move made permanent in June 2026 after the condition was met. Hojlund now earns €178,077 per week (£152,250), working out at €9.26m a year (£7.92m). 

Adrien Rabiot – €178,077 per week (£152,250)

Adrien Rabiot moved to AC Milan towards the end of the summer 2025 transfer window after a turbulent departure from Marseille, where a dressing-room altercation resulted in him being placed on the transfer list.

Milan paid a modest fee to bring the midfielder to the club, with the Frenchman signing a three-year contract worth €178,077 per week (£152,250), giving him an annual salary of €9.26m (£7.92m).

Randal Kolo Muani – €195,962 per week (£167,500)

Randal Kolo Muani spent the first half of 2025 at Juventus on loan from Paris Saint-Germain and became a player the Italian club wanted to keep. However, a permanent move did not materialise at the time, with the French forward joining Tottenham on loan instead.

Juventus eventually completed his permanent signing in August 2026 for an initial €38m, with the striker agreeing a five-year contract worth €195,962 per week (£167,500), or €10.19m annually (£8.71m).

Alessandro Bastoni – €195,962 per week (£167,500)

Alessandro Bastoni came through Atalanta's academy before Inter signed him and sent him out on loan to gain first-team experience.

The Italy international agreed a contract extension in 2023, taking his deal with Inter through to 2028. Bastoni now earns €195,962 per week (£167,500), which amounts to €10.19m a year (£8.71m).

Kevin De Bruyne – €213,654 per week (£182,700)

Kevin De Bruyne joined Napoli on a free transfer in June 2025 after Manchester City opted against renewing his contract following a trophy-laden decade in England.

The Belgian left City with six Premier League titles and a Champions League medal to his name, prompting plenty of interest from clubs across Europe and MLS. Napoli won the race for De Bruyne’s signature with a two-year contract worth €213,654 per week (£182,700), which works out at around €11.11m (£9.5m) a year. 

Hakan Calhanoglu – €213,654 per week (£182,700)

Hakan Calhanoglu made the short move across the San Siro in the summer of 2021, leaving AC Milan for Inter on a free transfer after negotiations with his former club broke down.

The Turkey international signed a new contract with Inter in 2023, taking his stay through to 2027. Calhanoglu’s current deal pays €213,654 per week (£182,700), giving him an annual salary of €11.11m (£9.5m).

Kenan Yildiz joined Juventus from Bayern Munich in the summer of 2022, initially featuring for the Under-19 and Next Gen teams before making his senior breakthrough as a teenager.

Juventus repeatedly improved Yildiz's terms as his progress accelerated, eventually handing the attacker a new deal until 2030 in February 2026. Yildiz now earns €213,654 per week (£182,700), or €11.11m a year (£9.5m).

Jonathan David – €213,654 per week (£182,700)

Jonathan David joined Juventus on a free transfer in the summer of 2025 after his contract with Lille expired, ending a long period of speculation over his future.

The Canada international scored consistently during five seasons in Ligue 1 and arrived in Turin with a strong reputation as a reliable goalscorer. David's Juventus contract pays €213,654 per week (£182,700), equivalent to €11.11m annually (£9.5m).

Nicolo Barella – €231,538 per week (£198,000)

Nicolo Barella initially joined Inter from Cagliari on loan in July 2019 before completing a permanent move for €32.5m in September 2020.

The midfielder quickly established himself as a key figure at San Siro and agreed another contract extension on June 11, 2024, taking his deal through to 2029. Barella's current terms are worth €231,538 per week (£198,000), meaning he earns €12.04m (£10.29m) per year.

Lautaro Martinez – €320,577 per week (£274,000)

Lautaro Martinez joined Inter from Racing Club in the summer of 2018 as a promising young forward and has grown into the club's captain and leading attacking figure.

The Argentina international agreed to a new contract on August 12, 2024, keeping him at Inter until 2029. Martinez earns €320,577 per week (£274,000), which works out at €16.67m a year (£14.25m), making him the highest-paid player in Serie A.
