Authenticity (3/5): The Sun shines light on Guehi's transfer hopes

Crystal Palace are anticipating offers for their star defender Marc Guehi, who considers Liverpool as his first-choice destination. The Reds are also interested in signing him.

This story comes from The Sun, who aren't usually very reliable. However, this isn't the first time Guehi has been linked with a move to Merseyside.

Value (3/5): Liverpool want the right price

Palace turned down bids in the region of £60 million from Newcastle United for the 24-year-old over the summer. It is claimed they will also look for a big fee now although “that is sure to drop in the summer as his contract ticks down.”

Liverpool, meanwhile, are expected to be reluctant to spend big and are only interested in a deal at the right price.

Suitability (3.5/5): Ideal for high-line

The England international has plenty of pace to offer and is a positionally astute defender. He should be able to comfortably play in Arne Slot's backline, which often pushes higher up the field.

Upgrade? (2/5): Still behind Van Dijk

Guehi is a left-sided centre-back – the area which is currently occupied by Virgil van Dijk at Anfield. The Palace star is a solid defender but he is unlikely to start over the Dutchman if he joins the club in the near future.

Logic (3.5/5): Aim for a long-term spot

A move to Liverpool, who appear settled under Slot, would be wise for Guehi despite limited opportunity at the moment. Van Dijk, 33, is eventually going to be shown the exit door at Liverpool, leaving a void for Guehi or another young centre-back to fill.

Whisper+ verdict: 15/25

Considering Palace's demands, it is unlikely Guehi will get his dream move to Liverpool in January. However, with his contract due to expire in the summer of 2026, a departure next summer is a huge possibility.
