While it has been a difficult start to life in Europe, the Dragoes are firing on all cylinders in the league, while the home side will look to maintain their new-found form, having won their last three matches.

Gil Vicente turned in a resilient team display to maintain their upward trajectory in the Primeira Liga on Monday when they fought back from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Braga at the Estadio Municipal de Braga.

A 72nd-minute own goal from 22-year-old defender Diogo Travassos sealed Braga’s fate after summer signing Walace dos Santos Franca netted four minutes into the second half to cancel out Pau Victor‘s 33rd-minute opener.

Having failed to taste victory in their four matches back in September, claiming two points from a possible 12, Gil Vicente have now bounced back with back-to-back wins over Moreirense and Braga, with a 3-2 extra-time victory over UD Santarem in the Taca de Portugal on October 14 sandwiched between the two league results.

Luis Pinto’s men enjoyed a solid 2025-26 campaign, where they finished sixth in the Primeira Liga table, nine points off the European qualifying places, and with 14 points from their opening eight games this term, they sit sixth in the table and look set to challenge for a return to Europe.

Central to their impressive start to the campaign has been the solid job done at the defensive end of the pitch, where Gil Vicente have kept four clean sheets and conceded just six goals so far — only Santa Clara (4) and Porto (4) have shipped fewer.

On the other hand, Porto were left empty-handed for a third straight game in the Champions League as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Eredivisie champions PSV Eindhoven at the Estadio do Dragao on Tuesday.

Having kicked off their European quest with consecutive defeats against Manchester City and Real Betis, the Dragaos failed to find their feet in front of their home supporters, with Gus Til netting in the 57th minute to hand PSV their first UCL win of the campaign.

While they have struggled to make their mark on the continental scene, Porto have flown out of the blocks back home, getting their Primeira Liga title defence off to a perfect start with eight wins from eight matches to sit five points clear at the top of the league standings.

Francesco Farioli’s men had to dig deep for maximum points in their last league outing on October 10, when Victor Froholdt and substitute Oskar Pietuszewski hit the target to secure a 2-1 comeback victory against Maritimo at the Estadio do Maritimo.

Porto journey to the Estadio Cidade de Barcelos fresh off back-to-back Champions League defeats, but they will be backing themselves to bounce back this weekend against an opposing side who have failed to win seven of their last 10 meetings, losing six and claiming one draw since September 2022.

Whispers’ prediction: Gil Vicente 1-3 Porto

Gil Vicente have upped the ante in recent weeks and will fancy their chances against a Porto side coming off two consecutive UCL defeats, but the Dragoes’ superior quality across the pitch should see them victorious here, which is currently priced at 21/50 (1.42) by the bookies.

The goal range market has 2-4 goals currently priced at 53/100 (1.53), while over 2.5 goals at 17/20 (1.85) is our third pick of the game.

Porto are without a clean sheet in eight consecutive games, making BTTS – Yes at 1/1 (2.00) the value bet for us this weekend, while a correct score of 1-3 at 12/1 (13.00) is our outside punt.
