Exeter – Luton preview: latest form, news, and potential lineups

Read all of the latest injury updates and team news for this duel, including our predicted Exeter vs Luton lineups.

Exeter

Exeter were pretty poor on Saturday when losing 0-3 at home vs Oxford. The Grecians have done relatively well at home before this result and one thing they tend to do in front of their fans is to make themselves hard to break down.

Exeter are bound to use their best-possible lineup in this match against a Premier League outfit.

That said Exeter will be without six players who are on the long-term injury list. Among those are strikers Muskwe and Aitchison, plus the best centre-back of the team Diabate.

Predicted Lineup:

Sinisalo (GK), Sweeney, Aimson, Hartridge, Mitchell, Kite, Trevitt, Carroll, Jules, Cole & Wildschut

Luton

Luton’s Premier League experience so far had been a painful one. They just earned their first point on Saturday after 4 defeats in the first 4 rounds. The 1-1 draw vs Wolves was far from satisfying though as they played against ten men for a large chunk of the match and should have done more.

The Hatters are expectedly struggling in the league and with all their focus right now on survival in the top flight, the expectations are that most regulars will be given a rest in the coming League Cup match.

Luton don’t have too much quality in their squad as it is, compared to the other Premier League teams, so this means many players that normally would play out on loan in League One will be starting now.

The main goalie Osho and the influential attacking midfielder Barkley remain major doubts. Also, Potts from defence and Clarke from midfield remain in rehabilitation.

Predicted Lineup:

Krul (GK), Lockyer, Andersen, Bell, Doughty, Mbanzu, Bery, Giles, Ogbene, Adebayo & Brown

Player to Watch: Yanic Wildschut

For Exeter to cause an upset they will need goals. The Grecians have been playing with false nine lately and the speedy winger Yanic Wildschut thrived in this new role. Wildschut is very good at beating defenders one-on-one with his speed and fast takeoff.

As Exeter are likely to be playing mainly on counterattack in this match we can see Wildschut given a key role up front. Considering how shaky Luton have looked defensively so far we can see Wildschut shining against them.
