Let’s start with the basics, and then compare the odds for the 10 teams seen as most likely to lift the European Championship trophy.

Betting basics

If you’re new to betting on competitions, the favourites can always be found at the top of lists across bookmaker sites. Depending on whether you are seeing odds in fractional, decimal or American format, the favourites in a tournament or match can be found as follows:

Decimal: The lower the number, the likelier the outcome is to happen. Anything under 2.00 denotes an implied probability of more than 50%.

Fractional: Slightly trickier, but generally only found in the UK. If the number on the right side of the fraction is greater than the left, there is a greater chance of the event happening than not. Meanwhile, a bigger number on the left means it is more likely not to happen than it is. The greater the difference between the two figures, the higher the implied probability of something happening or not happening.

American: Will be shown as a +/- next to a number. The greater the number next to a + sign, the less likely the event is to happen. The bigger the number next to a – sign, the more likely something is to happen.

Key betting markets for Euro 2024

These are the most popular Euro 2024 betting markets outside of the basic ‘1×2’ market. We’ve also recommended several upcoming games that we feel will pay out. If available, follow the link for each fixture to read our preview, which will show you why we’ve made these choices.

Both teams to score

If neither team is particularly good at defending but great at attacking, this is definitely the market to explore. In the last tournament, nearly half (16) of the 36 group stage games saw goals at both ends, as did six of the seven games that followed the Round of 16.

Over 2.5 goals

A meeting of two attack-minded teams can often result in a high-scoring game. A good time for this to happen is the third group stage matchday, as several teams may have no choice but to go for broke and win to avoid elimination.

HT/FT double

A very popular go-to market for when the odds are stacked in favour of the favourite in the 1×2 market. Odds for a HT/FT favourite win will always be greater than those seen in 1×2 betting. If backed to win after leading at HT, the team’s name will appear twice, either side of a forward slash (e.g. Germany to win after HT lead = ‘Germany/Germany’).

Anytime goalscorer

Some players were just born to score, and the faith people have in them to find the net is always clearly reflected in odds. These odds will become available closer to the time of Euro 2024’s launch when all squads have been finalised.
