England to Win
England have won five and only lost three of their 10 previous games against Croatia, running out 2-1 winners when the pair last met for a Nations League tie in 2018. England have won all of their last six international matches and have only conceded one goal during that period while Croatia have three of their last six fixtures, only managing to beat the likes of Malta and Cyprus.
Under 2.5 Goals
we're expecting a tight and tense 90-minutes between these two countries as both will be eager not to start the tournament with a defeat. Under 2.5 goals have been scored in three of England's last four matches and in four of Croatia's last five outings, so you can see just why we're not predicting a goal-fest on Sunday.
Harry Kane to Score
Harry Kane has netted 34-goals in 54-caps for England and will captain his country at Euro 2020, so there is a lot of pressure on the Tottenham striker to lead by example. Kane usually performs well at the big tournaments and of course, he is England's No.1 penalty taker and has a fantastic record from the spot. Kane scored 12-goals in the qualifiers for Euro 2020 and has netted 2-goals in his last four appearances for England.
England vs Croatia: Stats, Markets & Odds
Can England get Euro 2020 off to a winning start?
England's second team secured a 1-0 win over Romania in their final warm-up game ahead of the Euros and following the match it was announced that Brighton's Ben White would replace the injured Trent Alexander-Arnold in Gareth Southgate's 26-man squad. Henderson played 45-minutes of that game against Romania, missing a penalty in the process, but there was no sign of Maguire and that may well be why White got the call-up. Henderson is unlikely to start against Croatia but England have others options in that positions including Rice, Phillips and Bellingham. Grealish has impressed all season for club and country and it will be interesting to see if Southgate can find a space in his starting eleven for the in-form Aston Villa midfielder, as we believe he could be one of the stars of the tournament.
Croatia lost their last friendly 1-0 against Belgium and head into the opening game of Euro 2020 in a mixed run of form that has produced two wins, three defeats and one draw from their last six outings. Despite being without the experience and talent of Rakitic, Mandzukic and Corluka for this tournament, there is still plenty of quality in the Croatia squad. Lovren, Vida and Vrsaljko are all experienced defenders, while in midfield Modric captains the side at the age of 35 and Kovacic, Brozovic, Vlasic and Pasalic offer fresher legs and lots of technical ability. Perisic still remains a threat in the final third and Kramaric has a good record at international level, while Rebis is hard-working and can chip in with the odd goal now and again.
