Dortmund vs PSG H2H record
The Borussia Dortmund vs PSG rivalry isn't as historic as some of the other rivalries in European football but matches between the two sides are usually exciting. Their very first encounter came in the Europa League in the 2010/11 season with the match finished 1-1 in Dortmund. An identical result to that on Wednesday night could suit both teams if Newcastle fail to beat Milan.
- Dortmund Wins: 1
- Draws: 2
- PSG Wins: 2
There are a couple of players in both squads who have played for both Dortmund and PSG. Borussia Dortmund, Thomas Meunier, and PSG's Ousmane Dembele have both experienced life at both clubs but ironically, neither man will take to the field on Wednesday night.
Dortmund vs PSG last five H2Hs
Dortmund 1-1 PSG – 21st October 2010
The first ever Dortmund vs PSG H2H came in the group stages of the 2010/11 Europa League. Back then, PSG weren't owned by Qatar Sports Investments and Jurgen Klopp was the Borussia Dortmund manager. The match at Signal Iduna Park was a lively contest with Nuri Sahin opening the scoring from the penalty spot before a late goal from Clement Chantome earned a point for the away side.
PSG 0-0 Dortmund – 4th November 2010
The return fixture in Paris a fortnight later was a lot less lively than the match in Dortmund thanks in large to the fact PSG didn't need to do anything other than draw the match to stay on track for qualification. Dortmund needed the points more but a draw for them also left their fate in their own hands so it almost felt inevitable that the match would finish all square. In the end, the draw came back to burn Dortmund as they missed out on qualification by a point.
Dortmund 2-1 PSG – 18th February 2020
Ten years after their last H2H, Dortmund and PSG faced off again. This time, the clash was a round-of-16 Champions League tie with the first leg played in Dortmund. The match saw Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe go head-t0-head for the first time and it was the Norweigan who came out on top, scoring a brace to give his side the lead heading to Paris. However, a Neymar away goal did put the tie on a knife edge.
PSG 2-0 Dortmund – 11th March 2020
The return leg in Paris was played in front of an empty Parc des Princes due to the Covid pandemic and the freedom of no supporters seemed to relax PSG. They were brilliant on the night with Neymar once again getting on the scoresheet before Juan Bernat gave Thomas Tuchel's men the cushion they needed. PSG would go on to reach the final where they would lose to Bayern Munich.
PSG 2-0 Dortmund – 19th September 2023
The most recent Dortmund vs PSG H2H came in September 2020 at the Parc des Princes. PSG won the match 2-0 thanks to goals from Mbappe and Hakimi in what was an easy night's work for the French side. Since the match, Dortmund have taken control of Group F while PSG still need a result on matchday six to qualify after slumping to defeats against Newcastle and Milan.
Potential MVP – Kylian Mbappe
Say what you like about Kylian Mbappe, and he has overstayed his welcome at PSG, but there is no getting away from the fact that the French superstar is a man for the big occasion. His performance in the World Cup final last winter was breathtaking and it was his goal in the last minute against Newcastle that has ensured PSG have their fate in their own hands coming into this match.
Mbappe already has 18 goals to his name this season and a couple more against Dortmund, a side he scored against last time out, would keep his and PSG's hopes of a maiden Champions League triumph alive until February.
