Whisper+ analysis

Authenticity (2/5): Mail not giving much away

The race to sign Southampton teenager Tyler Dibling has a new leader, with Liverpool reportedly first in line to sign the right-winger.

This story broke in The Daily Mail and was picked up by teamtalk.com. The British newspaper claims the Reds would “likely be at the front of the queue”, but don't give much reason for this.

Value (3/5): Worth significantly rising

Dibling has been one of the only positives for Saints in their tough return to the Premier League this season, as the 18-year-old has scored twice in 19 appearances.

His market value has risen from just £4.15 million to £18.25 million in the last three months. Man Utd were said to be offering £21 million, so we can guess that Liverpool are offering more, if they are now first in line.

Suitability (4/5): Ready for Arne-ball

His dribbling abilities and willing to take on his man have been a joy to watch this season and have not gone unnoticed. Notably, he has already been capped at England under-21 level.

On the early evidence of his trajectory, Dibling has what it takes to step up to an elite club, and can feature in either of Arne Slot's formations, whether that is on the right of a front three or as part of an attacking midfield three.

Upgrade? (2/5): Replacing Salah will be too much

If he continues to develop at such a rate, it will not be long before Dibling will be ready to be a regular starter on the right side for Liverpool.

Should Mohamed Salah stay at Anfield, the Egyptian could be the perfect mentor for the youngster, but if he is to leave, stepping into his boots so soon will be a daunting task for Dibling.

Logic (3.5/5): Snap him up now?

With Southampton expected to be relegated after entering 2025 marooned on single figures in the points column, The Mail is suggesting that a cheaper deal in the summer is more likely.

Yet, with the vultures already circling in anticipation of the Saints' imminent second-tier return, it might be better for Liverpool to make a move this month, giving him at least half a season of working alongside Salah.

Whisper+ verdict: 14.5/25

Dibling is unlikely to be a Saints player for much longer, yet there are doubts as to whether he is the next player to swap St Mary's for Anfield.
