Mainz’s haul of seven points from their last three home fixtures has strengthened their bid for survival and another victory at the MEWA Arena over bottom club Darmstadt on Saturday could push them to within two points of 15th place.
Our latest football predictions have backed them to pick up the win they need to keep their quest for safety on track. Darmstadt in comparison, are already doomed and the bookies have given them just a 13.3% chance of securing what would be only their third win of the season this weekend.

Player to watch – Sepp van den Berg
Mainz have really tightened up defensively in recent weeks and young Dutch defender Sepp van den Berg has been playing a big part in their improvement performances at the back. The 22-year-old, who is on loan with Mainz from Liverpool, will be determined to impress again on Saturday.
Van den Berg powerful in the air
Sepp van den Berg was a colossus at the back for Mainz in last weekend’s surprise draw at Leipzig when the centre-half won a game-high six aerial duels and completed seven clearances overall to thwart Die Roten Bullen. Van den Berg should have an integral role for Mainz again this weekend.
